QUOTE(Joi @ Mar 27 2008, 4:02 pm) *

My original point was that there was excessive swearing in the post I was quoting. Excessive - exceeding what is usual, proper, necessary. The article I originally quoted used aphasia as ONE example of a condition that could cause or be accompanied by "excessive" swearing. So I guess the real argument would be what's "excessive"? If an aphasiac wouldn't normally swear, wouldn't any swearing be "excessive"? Aphasics' automatic speech can include swear words, numbers, lyrics, "um", "er" and other placeholders (from multiple articles I read today, more than I ever thought I would). So they could also excessively be repeating numbers.

You're making a lot of assumptions here to justify your argument. Yes, it is possible that someone never swore in the past, suffered some type of trauma, developed an aphasia, possibly maintained the ability to swear, and now uses that ability to swear more than before. That's quite a few assumptions. In the real world of medicine, it's not practical and is not considered a symptom of any aphasia. A lot of aphasias don't even affect vocabulary or fluency of speech.

QUOTE
As an aside- good debating skills.

Yes, and you are assuming that I meant all aphasis affect vocabulary or fluency of speech.

No I'm not. I just threw that in there to show that your many assumptions are only applicable to the aphasias that do.

I meant I'm the one doing the ovary breaking smile.gif The brain is unbelievably complicated and making generalizations is often a bad idea. There are some really weird things that can happen. I don't disagree with the possibility of excessive swearing resulting from some aphasias, but I would say it's highly, if not exceptionally unusual. Indeed, all of the assumptions you make would have to be true, and that's possible but not really. The original author makes it seem like it's somewhat normal, which is what I took exception with.

Too true, the brain is complicated, generalization is often a bad idea, and still really wierd things can happen.

I guess that just shows how differently people interpret things. I thought the original author made it sound like it was only one of many things that could be a cause. innocent.gif

Yeah, she does, but she makes it seem like aphasias often lead to swearing, which they don't. I'm done!

I'm not even going to bother arguing with any human being or animal who thinks it's hard to argue Radiohead being more creative than Live. Not wasting my breath for longer than a second on that one. Second...over, buh bye.

Are you suggesting Live is more creative than Radiohead? Because that's what it looks like.

And I'm not saying Radiohead's bad or anything. I like a few of their songs that aren't so complex, like their older stuff, and I like their ballads, though I'm a sucker for just about any ballad. I just don't think they're necessarily better than Live, like everyone is saying. People are trying to talk objectively so they are saying stuff like "Radiohead is better but Live is my favorite band," which is unfortunately very hypocritical.

QUOTE(Badman @ Mar 27 2008, 2:18 pm) *

Kid A was The best album album I have listened to this year since Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. I have probably consumed 20 albums this year so it's a big thing.

Kid A is like "The Wall" for our generation. Off the first listen, The Wall is still better, but in the future who knows? How to disappear completely and Idioteque were epic, Idioteque was the closest thing to a progressive song that one could dance to which NEVER happens. Not one bad song on the album, the song I like the least would be... um... Motion picture soundtrack? That song still kicks ass though bounce.gif
Thanks for pointing me to this album, it is truly art. music.gif

I'm glad you liked it! But now I'm really puzzled. I could never have imagined that somebody could like The Bends, hate OK Computer then like Kid A! laugh.gif

Motion Picture Soundtrack is a well-known debate, also... There is the 2000 album version fans and the acoustic 1996 version fans. smile.gif

OK, so here we go ...

First of all we're getting hammered with snow so I've got some time.

I'm being contradicted and attacked by idiots in this thread which feel again that they have a need to prove their opinion as fact over someone else while trying to discredit what others say and be assholes in the process. It's great how the negative people on this board consistently try to tear other people down and then say that the others are the idiot.

I will simply outline the idiocracy of the statements made by others in this thread for everyone to view. I will keep my statements short and simple (with commentary) and allow the quotes to really speak for themselves:

QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *

You are such a retard, never even trying to explain your own point of view.

Because of this statement all personal explanations for Ed will be italicized!!!! thumbsup.gif

My original statement (simply to help someone out)
QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Mar 25 2008, 3:05 pm) *

Looking for bootlegs, check out liverockspace.com !

Ed's reply (which is the word of God through Ed)
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 25 2008, 4:30 pm) *

Bootlegheaven.com is the best source for bootlegs.

Ed later clarifying that his opinion on bootleg websites is correct and mine is wrong (hence calling me redeculis in the process "which for his information, since he always complains about spelling, should actually be written as ridiculous")
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *

I still prefer it. As when it works, it always works, if it is not being re-structured. It is the best site. I know why. If you do not, try not to be redeculis at least.

My assumption (based strictly on reading other threads on this board)
QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Mar 26 2008, 9:49 am) *

Which is linked to your site, right?

Part of Ed's nasty response actually confirming in a round-a-bout way that at one time there was some type connection with the site and him (which no longer exists by the way) as I eluded to
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *

Moreover, it does not belong to my friend anymore. For more than a year.

Continued...

Excerpts from Liverocks initial statement (slams on Live and a negative attack towards Badman)
QUOTE(LiveRoCkS77 @ Mar 26 2008, 1:32 am) *

Go back to jerking of to your la da da da's of the shitty fucking river ...

The more shit I hear come from your mouth, the more I'm convinced that you're actually somewhat retarded. It's no wonder the world is as fucked as it is with brain dead zombie fucking morons walking around everywhere ...

Radiohead kicks Live's fucking ass plain and simple ...

Jesus, just quit posting already. Your stupid fanboy ass is making me wanna puke ...

My simple rebuttal to this statement that apparently struck a nerve with Ed: (By the way: 1. This is a Live fansite so obviously I disagree, 2. The insults were unnecessary, 3. I took a quote from Liverocks and simply reversed it then Ed called me negative, 4. I clearly stated we can disagree)
QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Mar 26 2008, 9:55 am) *

Radiohead is a whiny bitch band. Their music sucks "fucking ass plain and simple." I can't even listen to the shit.

We can agree to disagree here!

Ed's reply (incorrectly accusing me of spreading negativity and bullshit when it was obviously a reply (as always) against the initial negativity from Liverocks)
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *

Once again you spread th bullshit and bring the negativity.

Continued (again) ...

Ed being an idiot by throwing out a ludicrous comment that he feels makes him sound compelling and smart (comparing Radiohead to great classical work, a completely invalid question that any idiot here could see was a desperate attack)
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *
What next? Will you say Tchaikovsky was a bitch?

Ed being an idiot continued ... (not realizing this is a message board, not a congressional hearing)
QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Mar 26 2008, 10:32 am) *

You are such a retard, never even trying to explain your own point of view.

This set of comments speaks for itself (by the way, in my opinion Radiohead sounds like puke to my ears and has really never been relevant. Calling Radiohead "the best band in the world today" is a joke (and no, I'm not saying that Live is))
QUOTE

Radiohead kicks Live's fucking ass plain and simple...

Their music is a trillion times more creative and progressive...

They're more consistent, the music contains meaning and emotion to this day and is still relevant...

In case y'all can't read, LIVE is my favorite band...

I can easily see that a band like Radiohead is far superior to LIVE in all the aspects I mentioned...

In terms of musical ability, creativity and songwriting, my opinion is that Radiohead is the best band in the world today hands down. No contest with ANY other band. Call me a fan all you want, doesn't really mean shit to me. I'm just able to put bias aside and actually judge shit fairly instead of letting fanboyisms get in the way.

Liverocks encouraging and utilizing making fun of the handicap (Timmy is a handicap child from South Park):
QUOTE(LiveRoCkS77 @ Mar 26 2008, 1:58 pm) *

Ed, don't even bother with him. It's entirely pointless trying to reason with a retard.

You'll always get the same response...." Blugh ach blech buh TIMMY! LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally! A quote I won't necessarily disagree with (mentioned to quash the inevitable "fanboy" response because I like Live and because it has some truth):
QUOTE(Pokey @ Mar 26 2008, 1:11 pm) *

they sound no more whiny than post 2001 Live sounds cheesey..

Two statements I totally agree with (because they are true observations):
QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Mar 26 2008, 7:17 pm) *

1. The only good thing about Radiohead is that Creep is one of the few songs on rock band that I can sing.

2. Liverocks, are you even a fan of Live? All you do is run them down and compare them unfavorably to other bands?

Seriously, some of the deuschbags around here people around here quit attempting to be assholes (if you think I'm talking about you then I probably am). The pattern of trying to prove your opinion as fact over someone else's by being a dick is getting old. You just get pissed because I point it out!
