Hello people, I'm a n00b, but I did my little research before I decided to post here because I don't want to make you lose your time. nod.gif

A friend introduced me to Live and I liked what I've heard so far! I found a few torrents that made me happy... However, as I read the setlists on this site, I realized that The Dam At Otter Creek doesn't seem to be played often! God, I love that song and am looking for more versions. I come as a massive Radiohead fan and we have 2 amazing sites that portray each song and list their live performances, so it's easier to spot the bootlegs we should look for. So, I wonder if the same exists for Live... If no, is there a place with the boots links, like a hub or something? Thanks for any info and have a nice day. smile.gif

Must admit, don't think I've ever seen a live performance on YouTube.

You don't need to do research to be a part of our community, the fact that you like good music is enough nod.gif

Hearing bootlegs is great and all but there are so many songs you might like that aren't The Dam at Otter Creek (TDAOC) You should check out these 3 songs if you like TDAOC

White Discussion

T.B.D.

Turn My Head

The first two are random youtube videos but the last one is the official video I believe. If you still want to find Bootlegs and don't want to explore more Live, Bootleg Heaven is your best bet. Run a google search on bootlegheaven and you will find a site that has tons of old live shows where TDAOC was performed.

I chose those songs b/c they are kinda slow like TDAOC or b/c they kinda rock like it rockin.gif Hope you enjoyed some of them and We will be happy to guide you to good albums or other websites.

Thanks for your links! In fact, even if I haven't heard everything of Live yet, I fortunately know more than that song. lol.gif It's just that I saw that many songs are on almost all setlists but TDAOC is rarely there, even if I think it's the best from TC. Well, it's all a matter of opinions, in the end! I'm curious to know if there's a reason you have heard of why they rarely play it.

And thanks for your kind welcome words!

Hey welcome to the board! hi.gif

I can't help you on info when TDAOC was played, and which bootlegs exist of the songs (O don't know).
But something I can tell: indeed, the last 5 - 10 years, it hasn't played at all I think... but they suddenly played it last year (2007) at one of their shows, as the opening song. Really strange, but cool. But I don't think it was recorded by anyone.

Really? Wow that's a long time...

If I read this mb well, it was that Toronto gig in 2007 that generated some debate... laugh.gif

To me if there's a reason, it's b/c it sounds better on the album than it does Live. It's not a bad thing... A couple songs that sound awesome on CD but odd in concert

Freaks
Mirror Song
Forever May Not Be Long Enough
Lightning Crashes (IMHO!)

Some sound even better live than on the cd though!

I Alone
Lakini's Juice
Iris
Wings

They did a fantastic job on TDAOC. You should hear how crummy it sounded on the TC demo sarcasm.gif

Thanks for the info, I found that demo recently, will give it a listen out of curiousity! smile.gif

For Lightning Crashes... they must be so tired to play that song. I mean, it's beautiful, but I hope they could change it enough to maintain their own interest, not only to please the fans.

I can draw my little off topic comparison with Radiohead, who feel like they must play Paranoid Android every time, even if they would skip it sometimes! In the 90s, it was Creep.

Same goes with the songs that sound better on CD (Let Down, The Trickster), but are fans favourites anyway. What you say about TDAOC makes sense... sad, but makes sense.

Radiohead and Live are not all that different. I might be getting confused with REM but doesn't the lead singer look a little like Ed? Also, they both only had a couple of hits and then faded away except to the truest fans. I still think Ed is a better singer though tongue.gif

I discovered Radiohead A couple months ago when I heard Creep on Rock band and thought it sounded awesome. I asked everyone I knew what album I should get if I wanted to learn to like Radiohead and they pointed me to OK computer... that album had like 2 good songs on it and I hated it. The vocals sounded awful, too quiet and drown out by the band. I had to get the lyrics to understand them. Karma Police was the only song I remember.

If you know a better album than that, point me to it bc I will give them a second chance.

Indeed, you're talking about R.E.M. there (another band I don't really know!). I don't know if Michael Stipe really looks like Ed, but he's shaved, for sure. lol.gif

I'm sorry people, the next paragraph will be completely off topic... eh.gif

Well, I don't know how is the "typical" Live fan yet... It seems that most people miss their old days (?), so I guess you're more on the guitar-based, rockier side? I never know how to introduce somebody to Radiohead, honestly, because they changed their style so much over the years, and I didn't fell in love at the first listens. In fact, most of the songs I prefer today are those I didn't really care about before! If I had begun with OK Computer, probably I would have found it a bit boring and slow at that time, because I wasn't used to that kind of music. lol.gif Of course you need to like the more "emotional" stuff (not to be mixed with emo tongue.gif ). People who like "classic rock" usually prefer The Bends (1995), with its melodies and its 3 guitars attack. Creep was on Pablo Honey (1993), which is very forgettable compared to the rest, imho, even if enjoyable when I take a walk! lol.gif On OK Computer (1997) they found a more mature sound, deepened their arrangements and started to experiment with sound a bit more. Then with Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), electro met rock. Those 2 albums took more time to sink in because they were different, but at the same time, they're just a logical progression... I mean the first times I wondered what happened to that genious band I knew, but after a few listens I understood that those albums would become my favs! Hail To The Thief (2003) was a synthesis of all that, with more guitars, but most fans agree that it's not their best (even if there are some great songs). The latest, In Rainbows (2007), I can't judge yet... maybe more mellow? They've got families now! Cause yes, the lyrics are usually somewhat cryptic and dark; some people like it, other hate it. It's true that the singer sadly doesn't enunciate very well heynow.gif and I guess his voice is an acquired taste. It's also true that songs like Creep and Karma Police are among the most accessible, for a first listen. Anyway! I have no clue if a Live fan can be a Radiohead fan since I don't know Live enough yet to judge it, but personally, I like to listen to many styles, so there's always some great music to suit my mood. rockin.gif

Sorry. blush.gif

Emo's aren't emotional at all... punk music sucks.

I think I'll try the bends. I go running tonight and I'll give it a listen. I think I will like it because I like classic rock. My top 3 favourite bands:

Live
Bright Eyes
Pink Floyd

What do they all have in common? Meaningful, clear lyrics. If Radiohead cannot offer that, I may never like them.

Pink Floyd rockin.gif
I have heard of Bright Eyes a bit, should give an ear...

Radiohead lyrical style changed with time, just like music... sometimes it's cryptic, sometimes it's more direct, especially on the 2 latter albums. Also, it's never about misunderstood broken hearts, which got me immediately. laugh.gif

I'd say that lyrically, The Bends was written by a sensitive but angry boy, OK Computer by a young man who decided to look at something else than his belly buttom and to describe the strange world surrounding him, Kid A and Amnesiac by the same man who decided that it would be interesting to give place to interpretation instead of showing things and went more experimental, Hail To The Thief by a new dad who went a bit political, angrier and wanted to make a better world for the next generation, and In Rainbows is a kind of mix of all that, and more sensuous, funnily enough. laugh.gif

But back to Live... lol.gif

mwoah smile.gif I don't think that Iris sounds better live nowadays than on the TC recording (listen to the 2006 recordings.... nervous.gif ).
But it did back in 1997 rockin.gif
