Does anyone here have the recordings from Divided Mind, Divided Planet?

It is a five song demo by Live while they were under the name Public Affection. The tape was produced by Jay Healey. The copyright is 1990. The tape states that "all songs written and performed by Public Affection."

The track listing is:

"Pain Lies on the Riverside"
"Brothers Unaware"
"Waterboy"
"Operation Spirit"
"Peace Is Now"

From what I understand the versions on this demo album are different from the versions on Mental Jewelry. Anyone know if that is true, and if you have it could you share it?

What makes you believe the songs are different from the MJ versions? maybe they are (i don't know) but to recall another old record: FS had the same versions of Operation Spirit and Good Pain as appeared on MJ. Maybe the songs on DM,DP are also just the same as on MJ (don't know).

...But at the other hand: the only song we know that Live did with the name Public Affection and that was also on MJ, Good Pain, was different from the original. So...it can be. Do you have a source that says the DM,DP songs are different? If so, I think this can be interesting !!

Sounds interesting, never heard it but would love to sometime. Now see if they are really different this is something Live should have released as part of Radiant Sea, with studio versions of Change and New City and such .. not god damn previous christmas gifts.

Agreed, but it's never going to happen. Aside from the money and legal trouble they would have to go to in order to get the rights to the songs back, they simply have no interest in doing it. They are said to view it as looking too much to the past, and my personal belief is that they unconsciously don't want to release them because they know that the songs are better than anything they've recently written. I also think they are kind of offended that people are more interested in the outtakes than they are their new material, but this is just my perspective.

I'm pretty confident that one day most of this stuff will get released. I know this stuff is out there, and it's just a matter of putting it all together from different sources.

It's a shame if that's how they are rather than being proud at the kind of music that they could put together at such a young age.

But what about this DM,DP thing? wasn't this just released on their Action Front label? (just like TDOAD and RS)

I believe it was Action Front so they probably do own the rights to those recordings. Let's face it though, each one of the guys in the band has tons of money I'm sure, so the only real barrier to their buying back the rights is just their lack of desire to do so.

Truth. Maybe they'll be released sometime in the future as a Homespun gift or something, you never know.

If they sound like those awesome demo cover versions they recorded around that time - I am all for it. They seem to fucking rock then. smile.gif

Here's some links that mention Divided Mind, Divided Planet:

Wikipedia

Virgin Records

Again, if anyone has these tracks I'm interested in hearing them!

I remember a "Divided Mind, Divided Planet" promo poster with a globe logo (kinda like this http://www.logosoftwear.com/embroideryclip...rld.PST801.gif) and the words around it.I can see if I can dig this up.
