In my opinion, Mental Jewelery was half filler tracks. After Mirror Song, the whole album is pretty much unlistenable for me. Throwing Copper has Horse, Waitress, Stage, and Dam at Otter Creek as tracks I just don't enjoy playing (save for a rare occasion). Also, I feel White Discussion is over-long and the worst single the band has ever released.
Secret Samadhi was the first album that I could listen to and enjoy every song all the way through. TDTH, V, and Birds of Pray are also albums were I enjoy listening to every song all the way through. From what I heard of Songs from Black Mountain, I don't hear one filler track, but thats just me.

To each his own.

To each his own indeed nervous.gif
White, discussion over-long huh.gif omg.gif Stage and Dam filler shrug.gif omg.gif
Well and no filler on SFBM.. well it could be the first Live-album that does have filler..
Complete different taste over here I guess wink.gif

Don't see any resemblence to V though. Whoever said that should lay off the crack.

tongue2.gif sorry, it was sunday or something.. shouldn't post when it's weekend....
anyway I could see the resemblence, but hey then again, that's just me... some others said it looked like TDTH, MJ, BOP.. I'm sorry, but I can't see the resemblence to those albums wink.gif

Those background sounds in the verse were in the original demo that we got back in the summer, if that's what you're talking about. Nothing new.

Guess I meant the live-version then... innocent.gif

I think my live-loving days are over. It was gonna happen regardless of how good this album ended up being- my tastes have just changed. I still respect their old material, and do still love some of the songs. But as for being a fan of the band, I think thats pretty much through.

For people that want to try some really interesting music, give Pain of Salvation- 'Be' a listen. A true progressive masterpiece.

I'm right there with you. I defended Live for years, but I cannot defend their newer music anymore. I just don't like it and just because I loved the old stuff, it doesn't mean I have to like the new material. I'll see them in Philly in May and I'll buy the new CD, but I seriously doubt it'll be in heavy rotation in my car's stereo. I'm all for the one or two ballads on a CD, but I don't dig this constant lovey-dovey, the-children-are-our-future, let's-talk-about-love songs.

Live's music went from a PG-13 rating to a G.

bounce.gif hey we all grow up eventually dont we.. I have loved what live have done over the years, yeah this isn't the hardest rock album but its ok. I really like "The Show", the rest of the album sounds good,i didnt like the get ready track but cant really make my mind up until i hear the rest of the album.
My kids love LIVE and they have got their mates listening to it at school (which is great). Not quite sure what they are gonna make of this new album though!

All you people doing "full reviews" of "Snippets" are complete fucking tools.

I'm not losing faith in Live - I'm losing faith in the intelligence of the fans...

Couldn't agree more...
Listen to the full album before you jump to conclusions.
I bet some of you will change your minds.

So .. we shouldn't have any opinions based on the snippits? I don't think anyone is reviewing the album here, they're just expressing their thoughts after hearing the snippits and of course people's opinions will change accordingly when they hear the full songs.

just wanted to vent my overall feeling on the album.. based on lyrics, snippets, leaks and live-versions...this board should be the right place for it, as it's a LIVE-board... anyway didn't want to make it too serious as you are taking it right now.. so I don't know who's intelligence is lacking at this point... surrender.gif

QUOTE(Fredrik @ Mar 20 2006, 12:11 am) *

I just want to know if it's my headphones or if it's really this bad ... listen to the verse in Show, especially the words "secret space". Does it sound like a lisp? smile.gif He/she who mixed the vocals must have had too much of a love for the De-Esser (used corretctly = reduction of harsh S-sounds ... used poorly = singers has no front teeth smile.gif).

As I said: either it's time for new headphones or they should fix that, and soon! Show is one of the few songs that I actually like *dontchabemessingwiththat!*.

Found that irritating too. Is it so hard to say: Ed, please sing this line again, you had a lisp in there... We all know he normally sings a clear s.

Something else I don't understand about the vocals - why so much backing vocals (sounds like a choir singing) and why all the echoes? That's something I would do, when a bad singer tried to make a record - but Ed?

His voice is brilliant. All his voice needs is to record it as pure as possible.

ok,
I don't want to write a review based on 30 seconds snippets. All I can say now is that I'm looking foward to hear the full version of "Night of Nights" and really hope they're gonna play it live!!!

And I also hope they cut the sample when the best part of the song begins (cos' I really feel it like that)!!!

Uh the average song length on the album is just over 3:00 plus all Live does anymore is repeat the same damn thing the whole song except once in a blue moon there will be a song with a good bridge. So basically what we heard in those 30 seconds is what the songs will sound like. If you don't agree with me, listen to the 30 second clip of Show and then the whole song. Not much new stuff you can say after listening to the whole song. I didn't review the album after listening to the 30 seconds bits, but it pisses me off when people say shit like this. Not to mention, I didn't see any "full reviews" on the snippets. Chill out.

My thoughts about the snippets...there is a drum work sometimes. I'm happy with this. It will be an OK album, no more no less. Mystery will be good. We hear the falsetto less because of the strings. Looking forward like the others for night of nights. I heard good guitar work too. As another person said, they are often playing in the same key. (You're not alone and All I need are D-C-G almost the same way) I enjoy the listen, but wait until I hear the whole pack completely.

Good for you if you're not losing faith, but Live, for me, hasn't put out a full or even near a quality album to my liking this century. That's a long time, cuz...7 years.

And with that is the reason for my lack of faith.

I don't like pu$$y-ass music. I like my rock hard and loud, which Live used to provide.
