Live should've given up after TDTH. They would have had an impressive body of work to look back on.

SFBM is right in the middle as their 4th best album behind TC, TDTH and SS. I hope Live never puts out anything that replaces V at the bottom. That album is unlistenable.

I disagree with both your ranking of SFMB (I put it lower, definately below MJ), and your opinion of V, which I deem to be listenable (although yes it's poor compared to the other Live albums).

I think SFBM links to the old work in only a few bits, when Ed's voice goes a bit lower and moodier. Sections of Sofia, Show and Night of Nights spring to mind (although I'm tired so this may be bullcrap.)

Feel free to disagree with the facts. Politicians do it all the time! thumbsup.gif

Yeah, I don't care how entitled one is to an opinion, but rating SFBM above MJ is unbelievable and fucked up.

In my eyes it has 3 solid singles (The River, Mystery, Love Shines) which definately surpasses MJ. The rest of it is a wash. The acutal MJ album isn't all that great anyway. Concert and acoustic performances of those songs are way better than the original album recordings. For example, Opiration Spirit (as recorded) really doesn't sound that good until you hear the MTV Unplugged version.

Only The River came out as a single (I think) and that did nothing, and even as possible singles, the other two aren't that good compared to MJ's in my opinion. The Beauty of Gray, Brothers Unaware and Mirror Song are all better to me. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. music.gif

You have a point about that... PLOTR, operation spirit, sound terrible on the album but great in concert. Mirror song sounds better on the album though. The way the studio version does the "happy and warm insiiiiiihhhiiiiiide" can't be recreated live. He does a weird repeat thing live like "happy and warm inside, insiheeide! yeah"

Now that I typed it, I dun think anyone is gunna understand it lol. Point is some of the early stuff could have been produced better.

Well only MJ could have had better production. Throwing Copper sounds very much like an album of its time, which is part of its appeal. The production (as in mix, mastering, take choice wise) on SS was brilliant, by far the best on any Live release.

this is actually very incorrect. MJ has the BEST production of any of the Live albums, because it's not compressed to hell (like V and BOP) and the album breathes. Basically, all Live albums after MJ have a decent amount of clipping of the waveforms.

Rip some WAVs from MJ and then rip some tracks from other Live albums. You can see the peaks and the actual waveform from MJ...on later albums, it's a wall of sound. The WAV is a big block of sound with no highs and lows.

Just because an album is louder doesn't make it a better produced record.

That's funny because I was about to say that only a complete fucking idiot could rank SFBM above MJ. That's just plain and simply hilarious, but considering the moron it came out of, it's understandable.

It's fine to say you like SFBM better, but that in no way constitutes it being a better album. Mj is musically and lyrically way fucking better than SFBM. I feel like it's a waste of time even arguing the point. I'm just aghast that anybody could actually be dumb enough to surmise that.

Mirror Song, PLOTR, MEIAVC and Operation Spirit are all wayyyyyyyyyy fucking better than ALL songs off SFBM combined. Lyrically, they all blow away everything off of SFBM and musically, there's no comparison. Pat's bass on PLOTR is ten thousand times better than any riff or progression anywhere to be found on SFBM.

And who is the user who said PLOTR's sound sucks? Wow!! I seriously can't believe some of you people. no.gif uhoh.gif

That's the point, it's what makes MJ great amongst other things. The problem with Live's albums now is that they are overproduced to the point where it completely destroys music. Sofia is a great example. So is Life Marches On, over produced so badly, they completely ruined the fucking music.

MJ is raw and not tampered with, part of what makes it great. Guess you can't expect children to recognize something truly great, even when it's staring them straight in the face. Gives me great faith in our future generation, jesus. uhoh.gif

Quoted for total agreement and the fact that my wine soaked brain can't express it any better than our resident crazy canadian.

If i had to chose between MJ and SongsFromBlahMountainofstreamingshit, to chose to play for a newbie, I would most def pick MJ, which illustrates the raw talent and passion Ed and the rest of 'em had at the time and did until BoP.

Alright, everyone knows I like V, and SFBM is ok too. Birds of Pray is their worst album, but I still love it.
Anywho, back on topic. I think Get Ready, Sofia, and Where Do We Go From Here could've been on The Distance to Here, Show and Home coulda been on Birds of Pray, and Night of Nights coulda been on Secret Samadhi. But that's just me.
