In the past year or so, a lot of light has been shed on the writing and recording processes for TC and TDTH.

A partial rip of a TC demo tape surfaced last year, including alternate versions of lots of songs and a good version of Susquehanna. This provided some pretty good insight into the evolution of the recordings of the TC era songs.

A very early TDTH demo also surfaced last year, and it included a ton of rarities, including the studio versions of Still Aroused, Overcome, and tons of really early demos of TDTH era songs. We also know about songs that were not found on that demo, including New City and Change, from concerts.

However, little is known about SS, in my opinion. We know that Cheetah and Mallrat were SS outtakes, but that's it. Wikipedia claims that Pop Vortex and Photograph are also, but I've never heard that before. Any more info on that? Anyway, who has more information about the writing and recording of SS? Were there any other outtakes or alternate recordings of songs?

Hey, good topic, I was also wondering about the stuff around SS lately.
But I can't contribute much, actually.

As far as I can remember, people has indeed always placed 'Photograph' as a SS-song. I once had a crappy live-version of it, so maybe people who still has that one can see if it's dated ?)
I really don't know about Pop Vortex, because that's the strangest outtake outthere I think. Ever played in concert at all, for example?

About alternate versions: I don't think there are any. Maybe they were planning to put Heropsychodreamer on SS with that extra intro (you know which version I mean?), but maybe that alternate version was made after the SS release by somebody, and if so, it's not really an alternate thing.

Ohw, and at last, I think Love my Way is a SS-era cover, just Imagine and Walk the Line were covers in the V (or TDTH) - era. Too bad the live version of the LMW-cover has no date on it.

Studio versions of Still Arounsed, Overcome...others?? I admit I've been totally out of the loop, but where can I get this stuff?

From the special edition of SS:

Love my way- recorded on 1997 north american tour by jay healy.

There's also that 'full on mix' of Lakini's Juice, which from what I remember just has drums in the intro... and that's the only difference. I'll have a listen to it at some stage, cause it's been a long while.

That's a nice cover. It's on the Freaks single.
