Whether you like the album or not, there's no debating that SFBM is a very different sounding album from the likes of MJ through TDTH. But, are there any songs on SFBM where you hear an "old" Live sound coming through?

I think the most obvious one for me is the outro on Where Do We Go From Here, which to me sounds like something of the later TDTH vintage along the lines of The Distance jam sessions that took place on the Live and Counting Crows tour.

Unfortunately, that's the only moment of the "old" Live coming through that I hear. Let's hear some ideas...

I think Where Do We Go From Here is the most like old live. I could see it being on TDTH.

yeah I agree with you both on that song. Beside that song there's no full song I would place on another album, but maybe some parts would fit.

For example the verses of Sofia (Ed's voice is low), and the verses in Night of Nights (it could have been some stuff out of the SS era, not really the voice, but the dark atmosphere/sound, don't know how to call it).

Show does maybe also sound a little as classic Live...but not really comparable to any of the first 4 albums.

To me, there is nothing at all from SFBM that sounds like Live from MJ to TDTH era. Maybe a couple of songs that could have been BOP (Show for example), but I think you are really clutching at straws.
If Live do release their new album this year (yes, I was the one who did say July, and I do hold my ground on that one) and if rumours are that they are going back to their roots of a harder rock type album, I reckon a good name for it would be The Full Circle.

Great topic Exist!

Mystery's drums to me sound like SS drums. I mean, not equal... but similar. thumbsup.gif

Hahahaha, I agree one hundred percent.

I hear nothing resembling the old Live on SFBM. I agree with the user who said maybe a few would fit in with BOP.

SFBM has oficially replaced V as worst LIVE album. That's saying a lot since I threw away my copy of that album long ago.

Yeah definetly a lot of songs that could have slotted in with BOP songs easily, but anything prior to that is a stretch. Sometimes it's just hard to fathom that the same group of guys that made TBD made The River ... in one way that would be an awesome thing had The River come first and slowly over the years the band progressed from that into something as powerful, interesting and amazing as TBD ... but when it happens the other way around .. wow, it's sad.

The only moment I can really think of is as the above says, Where Do We Go From Here? could be from TDTH, albeit, one of the poorer tracks if it were on TDTH

well, it's more that the same singer of the group of guys that made TBD, made the River... really, it's just more an Ed-song. If the other 3 guys contributed more to the song (so not only play their instruments by a song that was basically already there), I think they never let a song like The River happen.

I just don't understand why it has to be a comparison.

Sure they sound different now, but so what??

Everyone evolves and changes, and with that change comes new growth and development.

Their music is different, for sure. SFBM is completely different to TDTH, and SS.

I dont think they should be compared. no one ever stays the same. It's agains all evolutionary principles.

Not all of their songs are great. Some suck rocks, to be honest. But then again, is there any band anywhere in the world that anybody likes ALL of their songs???

Heaven wore a shirt is by far the worst song they have ever done in my opinion!

Sofia could be on TDTH.

It has a similar passion to Dolphins Cry.

Yeah you kinda missed the point .. it wasn't so much comparing, I said it's interesting to note the change. The evolution, or in this case I think the devolution. As far as this thread goes though, why shouldn't we look for comparisons? Ex makes a stab at making an interesting thread around here for once and people start saying we shouldn't talk about that stuff.
Sometimes change isn't always good.

That's exactly what SFBM and BOP is, it's change, not growth/developement.

There isn't a song on SFBM I can link to Throwing Copper or Mental Jewelry. But I can see some songs to have that "The Distance from Here" level. Especially "Where Do We Go From Here" and "Show" are a little bit more like the old Live.

Still, even though I think SFBM is cool, I can't wait for Live to go back to the MJ, TC or even SS period. wink.gif

SFBM is right in the middle as their 4th best album behind TC, TDTH and SS. I hope Live never puts out anything that replaces V at the bottom. That album is unlistenable.

No, start Transmit your love from after 2 minutes and listen to the rest. That short section is better than everything on SFBM. Hero of love is also great. I know you don't like it but some of us actually like FMNBLE too.

I rate BoP above both of them though. victory.gif
