Live V, as you all know, was released a week after Sept. 11, 2001. It was seemingly about those horrible events, and has come to represent a beam of hope in those dark days. For those who think and feel Sept. 11 is a wound that will never heal. Watching Overcome, Simple Creed and Like a Soldier off 'Awake' a while ago was a tearful experience. It's good to not forget.

My favourite song from that album is 'The Ride.' I've even transcribed the lyrics on the 'Favourite non-Rush Lyrics' thread on the Rush message board which is my cyberhome. I push Live over there just as I will no doubt push Rush over here. Our own Rushgirl is a big fan of Live. Anyway, I don't know what it is exactly but something about Live (maybe Ed's voice) just gives me goosebumps every time. I've got 'em right now just thinking about it.

I cannot say which album is my favourite. I love them all equally and am happy that it appears that Live is making a new album. And will there ever be a Live Live? Can't wait for that!

But because of the above reasons Live V will always stand apart in my heart and mind.

V is a pretty shitty album, no doubt. However, I think to a lot of true Live fans it holds a special place in their hearts because it was the last Live album with some sort of emotion. I'm flipping through the songs quickly now, and after having listened to SFBM for a while desperately trying to understand it, this just sounds right. It's got some angst and real emotion!

Related to the upcoming album or online release of songs, I really hope they have this same passion. Live's music is, in technical terms, certainly nothing to write home about and that is true from MJ to SFBM. However, the emotion took it more than a few notches above regular pop and I hope more than anything they recapture that before their career is over.

Except Love Shines (A Song For My Daughters About God). I think I know what that's about.

V is the worst album of the Live collection. If you like it then great. I seriously have a hard time listening to anything other than Simple Creed on that album. When I hear the songs I just don't like them. I think they are poorly done and just don't have a good sound. Overall, everything is bad - they lyrics, guitar, bass, and drums. It's at the bottom of my Live collection.

In regards to Songs From Black Mountain, I actually enjoy that album. I rank it behind TC, SS, and TDTH. I love The River and Love Shines (I think their both some of Live's best songs) and I think Mystery is a real solid song that I really enjoy. Yes, I wish Live would come out with an album that rocked and had edge to it, but for what it's worth I like the sound of SFBM and think as an album it goes together well.

So true, I'm sure that if Ed would have chosen a different band and kept the same writing style we would've seen a much bigger band. I have always compared them to a band called King's X. They have a really ugly and crummy singer but the band is great! Live has a great singer, one of the best, pat and chad on guitars are no Geezer Butler or Eddie Van Halen. I'll give credit to chad, the drummer. He is decent.

I agree with you on V. No matter how hard I try, I cannot even come close to liking this album. I rank it right up there with the worst records I have ever heard. The only track worth listening to is Overcome in my opinion. Even simple Creed, read the lyrics for christ sake, some of the cheesiest garbage ever penned to paper. The bridge sucks and the main riff to the song is just...well, fucking gay and faggott-y in my opinion.

SFBM is better, but still cookie cutter bullshit. If I wanted happy, sappy bullshit music to listen to, I'd go listen to Kelly Clarkson or Avril fucking Lavigne. This isn't rock music, it's fucking pure and utter garbage in that respect. What the fuck was the intent? To imitate Maroon fucking 5? I do like some of it as easy type listening music though. I agree that Mystery is a solid song and that love shines has some personal value to me and more importantly Ed himself. But Jesus fucking chris already even, get on with your life. You've found all the "ANSWERS" and blah blah blah blah, we're fucking happy for you! GREAT! Now make some fucking rock music. I don't care if you continue to preach love or god or the gospel according to Osama Bin fucking Laden. Just make some real music. You've searched, asked your questions and found the answers you were looking for apparently. Good for you.

Now, I want to hear Pat's bass again, Ala TBD and PLOTR. I wanted to hear some anthemic shit ala TDC and I alone. Some shit that explodes from nothing into hard rocking rhytmic madness ala Voodoo Lady. I want to hear some well written lyrics ala TSUFL and Peace is Now. I want to hear some instrumental hard rocking bluesy type shit ala Susquehanna. I want to hear some more consistent well implemented bridges ala Like I do and STAGE. "Don't do this, wake me up tonight, come on motherfucker!!!!" With wailing guitar afterwards!! Where did this all go?

Did y'all say "fuck it, lets not make music with any structure anymore?" Give us some fucking effort for fuck sakes. We've followed you since the beginning and deserve to hear the extent of what you have to offer. Or have we heard it? Did you get to a level with TDTH and say "that's it, we can't do any better?" Because it sure as hell seems like it. From every standpoint, the music has gone wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy fucking downhill.

Pretty fucking sad coming from a band that put out a masterpiece like Throwing Copper and an even greater masterpiece like The Distance. Maybe if 9/11 wouldn't have happened, your musical talent wouldn't have gone the way comparable to Britney fucking Spears. Downhill FAST. Hope you have enough money for life, because another album or two like this and you won't even come close to selling out the small venues anymore. You'll be touring for change and not for 50k a pop. Your long time fans are leaving, the ones who've stuck by you through everything. Once that process is complete, you're fucked, plain and simple.

To whoever said Patrick Dalheimer couldn't play bass, you are wrong, he is a very good bassist, in fact a lot better than many, and I personally think he can hold his own with Flea (not saying he's as good as Flea or anything)

I remember when V leaked onto the Internet. I hoped and prayed it wasn't the real album and just a bunch of out-takes. God, I hate everything about it. I hate everything that came out of and took place in 2001, in general.

And Ed looks stupid with curly hair.
