I was listening to Awake this week (yes, I actually play cd's often! smile.gif cuz Awake is a nice collection of good songs), but at the other hand I was thinking some choices are kinda odd. I don't want to bring up the whole discussion again about greatest hits and best of albums 'never cover the fans preferenses, but the next things are just a little strange ( I take the european version cuz that's the one I have )

1. Operation Spirit (Tyranny Of Tradition)
2. Beauty Of Gray
- good choice for MJ. Not their most known album, so good choice, maybe Pain Lies along with it, but not bad

3. Selling The Drama
4. I Alone
5. Lightning Crashes
6. All Over You
- perfect choice for the TC era, just all their singles off it. the only thing I miss is just an extra song of it (not a single) because TC is for many their best. Maybe Iris, Pilar or Shit Towne would fit

7. We Deal In Dreams
- the marketing thing to sell best of albums. Although it wasn't a big hit, I still think it was a good single to promote the album with!

8. Lakini's Juice
9. Turn My Head
- 2 must haves on the album, but hey, where is other SS stuff?? Where are Freaks, Rattlesnake, and many others??

10. Dolphin's Cry
11. Run To The Water
12. They Stood Up For Love (acoustic version)
- TDTH singles, well done, especially including TSUFL but in an acoustic version, cuz many people won't have the 2cd-edition of TDTH.

13. Distance
14. Dance With You
- good songs, but why now suddenly placing non-singles on it, while TC can bring some real good non-singles for the best of, but by TC they didn't. And here they did nervous.gif hmmm.

15. Overcome
- It's on his place on a best of! One of their biggest hits.

16. Nobody Knows
- Uhm, sorry!? why the hell is NK included? A non-single, but by that not even at the best half of V (in my opinion!). And Simple Creed isn't placed here?

17. Heaven
18. Run Away - Live & Shelby Lynne
- just the singles again, good for me, only I didn't want to hear other people the duet version. But it's oke because it wasn't released before. Ohw, and Like I do belongs here (the never released 3th single tongue.gif )
19. I Walk The Line
- very cool never released track/cover. Else wise we wouldn't have heard this song!

what do you think about the songs?

I liked the choices up until the V-era and into BoP. Also, the track list was a little different on the international versions than the State-side one.

First off, I would have eliminated Beauty of Gray, Pillar of Davidson, and Nobody Knows from the US CD and replaced them with Freaks, They Stood Up for Love, and Simple Creed. Maybe also try to fit a shortened first of White Discussion on the finished project. I feel they should have kept the album singles only. Also, I would have mixed up the tracks so they weren't in chronological order. Lastly, I would have found a way to release I Walk the Line as the single because while We Deal in Dreams was a strong outtake, I don't feel it was single worthy.

Either way, I like the CD quite a bit as is. Nobody Knows is the only song I will skip on a regular basis.

That and Run Away. Ugh, that song makes me want to chew on tin foil or something.

Where is Mirror song? A mistake has been made somewhere. Also, I am a fan of Freaks instead of NK.

I thought They Stood Up For Love, Simple Creed, and either Like I Do or Sweet release should've been on there. Lift Me Up or Vine Street would've been a better outtake to put on it as well (I'd go for Vine Street, cuz' it's a different song, but Lift Me Up kicks ass as well...)

I was really surprised that Vine Street wasn't included on Awake. That's one kick-ass song!

I Walk the Line was released prior to Awake on a Sun Records Tribute album and DVD.

thumbsup.gif

'cept I'd go for 'Ghost' over 'Freaks'
Definitely White Discussion in any capacity over the butchered version of Pillar

As others have mentioned, Mirror Song belonged (give it BOGs spot)

thumbsup.gif Good to point out
I'd almost forgotten about that
I caught something on PBS about it too.
Ed rocked more Waylon Jennings style than Johnny Cash with that fuzzy-wuzzy country-boy beard

I always thought there was a big difference between Greatest Hits and Best Of's. For a greatest hits CD it is almost spot on, probably just swap Nobody Knows for Simple Creed and that'd be it .. a best of is a whole different thing.
