Very cool! Don't think I'll be making the trek down to South FL for this one (but it's tempting!).

Does anyone else think this is an odd mixture of events? NASCAR and a LIVE show? I guess a free show is a free show ... I would assume the stage would be set up in the in field so it's not like everyone HAS to see it?! It's a different way to gain exposure to an audience who may not necessarily listen to the band?! But I see how the NASCAR fans are in the Daytona area and don't really see the connection. Could be just me ... smile.gif

Yeah, I'm not going to see Live at a fucking Nascar event. They'll get booed off I'm sure. What an odd choice.

They've played Nascar shows before. Its usually a very wild crowd.

Live” to Headline Miller Lite Rock ’n Racing Show Prior to Ford 400

by Jay Rand
MIAMI -- Before the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers race for 27 pounds of Tiffany & Co.-produced sterling silver, the four members of Live will be “Throwing Copper.”

Homestead-Miami Speedway and Miller Lite announced today that the band behind ’90s alternative-rock smash hits “Selling the Drama,” “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone” and “All Over You,” will perform live at the Miller Lite Rock N’ Racing concert prior to the Nov. 18th Ford 400—the final race in the Chase for the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Trophy.

“Live’s rise up the musical charts mirrors Homestead-Miami Speedway’s ascension to the top of the NEXTEL Cup circuit,” said Speedway president Curtis Gray. “Racing fans have come to expect the best both on and around the track during Ford Championship Weekend, and Live fits that bill beautifully. It’s really an entertainment coup for us and our NASCAR fans; we couldn’t be happier Live will take the Miller Lite stage on Sunday.”

Musicians Ed Kowalczyk, Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey banded together in 1985 as middle-schoolers in York, Penn. Their 1994 release “Throwing Copper” sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and is the only album in Billboard history to stay on the charts for 52 weeks before reaching No. 1. It has been hailed as one of the most definitive alternative-rock recordings in the history of the genre.

“Live is looking forward to fueling the race with plenty of high-octane rock and roll,” said Kowalczyk. “We're also really looking forward to meeting Ricky Bobby--shake and bake, baby!”

With a resume that includes two No. 1 albums, three No. 1 hits and CD sales exceeding 20 million worldwide, Live is one of alternative rock’s most enduring bands. “Songs from Black Mountain” (Epic Records, 2006) represents the most recent release for the band, which has performed live for the likes of Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Ellen Degeneres, as well as on “Saturday Night Live” and the 2006 “American Idol” season finale.

For more on Live—including music, merchandise, tour information and exclusive content—please visit www.FriendsOfLive.com. TICKETS REMAIN for Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway's 1.5-mile oval Nov. 16-18, as the NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series all crown champions under the lights. To purchase, please call (866) 409-RACE or visit www.HomesteadMiamiSpeedway.com.

rockin.gif This was a great show, and the best part is we were able to get up close to the stage without waiting for hours. They did not do a very good job of promoting the event, as there were not many people around until they announced who was playing and then it quickly got crowded. The setlist was typical of the ones they have been playing recently. It was great to see them perform Waitress and Mirror Song after all these years.

Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, however Ed was pretty quiet. He threw out a couple of "how ya doin", and "thank you(s)", but that was pretty much it. Chad T & Adam seemed to be more into the performance than the others. The highlight for me was getting one of Chad T's guitar picks. He was trying hard to get a pick to a guy that kept begging for it, he kept throwing it to him and missing. He seemed to get a kick out of that, eventually he just took a handful and tossed it in our direction. Overall I had a great time at the race and it was even better that Live was playing. I thought at first the show may be lame because of the Nascar crowd, but they got into it more than I expected.

Here are some pics I took:
