I just found these awesome videos that reveal live's early history. If you listen you can catch alternate lyrics and even see a bit of "Stage" being performed.

I learned some stuff I didn't know... originally they used Buddha instead of jesus in operation spirit. And there is a part where Ed talks about belief on MJ that was totally awesome, enjoy!

I believe Ed originally wrote the song with the word Jesus, however after MJ's release he/band/management were afraid of being potentially offensive in a Christian dominated country so Buddha was often subbed in for pre-emptive damage control.

I hadn't seen these before. Thanks for sharing.

I like how you can see track the evolution of the band by their hair and glasses. That made me laugh! lol.gif

Thanks for sharing! I remember watching this program on MTV-back when they still played videos. I guess the part where they talk about removing their shirts for the Operation Spirit video is still part of Ed's live +LIVE+ experience.... whistle.gif

This summer in Detroit, Ed avoided the potential offense of dropping the F bomb in 'Voodoo Lady' on behalf of the virgin ears in the audience, and I remember thinking it was a little overkill on the self-censorship, but I'll have to concede he's a conscious artist, a considerate human, its all good thumbsup.gif

Is this that MTV special that aired back when Throwing Copper was out? The links don't work anymore in this thread (copyright violation?).

Does anyone know where we can see this show in its entirety? I had it taped but no way I can find that

It's from a special called "Past Present & Future"

I downloaded the 3 parts (30 minutes in total) from YouTube. It's in the .flv format. I'll see what I can do about uploading it somewhere.

NICE! you are the man

Live got a lot of "mainstream" coverage back in the day - they were one of a few elite bands that had an Unplugged, and it is still one of the best. This was back when not every single band that has ever recorded was given an Unplugged session.

This particular Past Present Future show was so cool....and in the credits they show Live playing Stage and Ed is freaking out....pretty awesome stuff
