This is going off topic, but did you know that the whole idea of fans of a band gathering online was invented by a fellow named Jimmy Lang? He started a mailing list for Rush fans in 1989. The National Midnight Star was around for a decade, and it fostered the modern fan-based message board. Of course nowadays he runs SOY, but he still loves Rush. I went to a couple of shows with him in August. Nice guy.

Peace, Hoodstock. It is not my intention to offend. And I do post news about LiVE frequently on the Rush boards, because there are many fans there. One of the admins at my home forum lives in York and has been a huge fan forever. The two bands have much in common.

Wow Grizz, Thanks for that information. Being kind of a newbie to the boards I have wondered why Jimmy was treated as such a god and how he got all of his inside info. Thanks for clearing that up.

Anyway, back on topic, personally I do not believe in the God that I think most people picture in their minds. I do not see him/her as something outside, above, or before the universe. The universe is not the creation of God, but rather the opposite. To me, God is the essense, or spirit, of the universe, much like our minds, which spring from our physical brains. Without the brain there is no mind. Consequently, I call myself an atheist to avoid confusion.

I do not, however, believe that believers are wrong. Ultimately nobody really knows for sure. To me, the greatest strength of our society lies in the freedom that each individual has to decide or not decide for themselves what is true. That freedom must be honored and preserved.

QUOTE(SinfulEyes @ Oct 27 2007, 11:33 am) *

How does the bible explain all of the natural tragedies and disasters in life anyways? What about people born with diseases that cause them to live maybe 4 weeks on this planet?

in short, suffering is the earthly price we pay for our sins. however that suffering occurs. i, nor anyone, can answer all the questions about "why did God do this, or that"... it's not for us to know right now. i do believe that God made man, and i do believe he made us perfect. He also gave us free will. and our free often becomes something of greed and self centerness... something other than glorifying God. i believe that everything bad in the world is a product of our sinful actions either directly (the person that got killed in a murder) or indirectly (the baby born with an illness). i see God for He is... some see Him for who He isn't. when thousands are killed by a natural disaster many ask..."why did God let this happen"... but never,... "maybe God wasn't kidding when he said that the land was cursed due to mans sin"

someone asked "how do you "know""? i know because i've seen Jesus work in my own life. but, i, nor anyone, can convince another to believe by his own experiences... you must have faith and experience them for yourself.
