I was raised a catholic which I certainly am not now, but I think when things are instilled in your brain at such a young age some thoughts and ideas are hard to shake. I don't really believe in any organised religion, much like Ex said though, some I really don't know all that much about. Some of the ideas and philosophies are good as far as how we should live our lives as here on Earth but for what is to come after I'm not even going to try and guess.

I've always lived my life the way I want, I'm not trying to be a saint, I am selfish to a degree like it has been said here, I'm not trying to get a reward at the end because I honestly don't believe there is one. However should their be then I'd like my life to be judged on how I lived it, not who I worshiped. I love my family (most of anyways), my friends, I am well mannered (most of the time) amoungst my fellow man and I think that is enough. I'm not going to start devoting time to worshiping something neither myself or anyone can prove exists. I know the arguement of "but you can't prove it doesn't exist either!", but to me there is much more proof in there being nothing. There are way too many flaws that are pointed out in most religions for me to think "hey they are really on to something here".

What I never understood when it pretains to life on other planets are statements like "well there is no water on that planet so it can't sustain any sort of lifeform" .. like somehow the rules on Earth and it's living beings will apply to everywhere else. Somewhere out there, there has to be other life and maybe they don't need water, or air or whatever else we have to survive, they may even have elements that we don't have here on Earth, there are probably things out there that the human brain can't even fathom really.

I agree with mr Wambangalang to a certain degree, but there are differences that do seperate us, yes we're all human beings, however it's not just ideas that seperate us and make us different, some of us just are and that is race, some are asian, some are white, some are black, I guess we can choose to let these seperate us but it does make us different. I always thought dogs were a great example, with all the different breeds and such, they are all so different yet don't really care, they don't have ideals and beliefs, you'll see a greyhound and a german shepard being the best of friends, just like you can see an asian and a black man being best of friends, but you'll never see a greyhound dismiss a shepard because of beliefs or ideals like you may with humans.

I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore smile.gif

Haha, I'm so tempted to make a really hilarious joke about another poster, but I know it would fuck up this thread and this is the only one on the site that's worth keeping clean. I will refrain! banana.gif

wouldnt it be funny if one of these religions is actually the true path to god, we're all pretty much doomed to the lake of fire for eternity. wouldnt that be funny? like, ouch!

Reminds me of Rowan Atkinson live when The Devil is trying to organise another batch of newbies "Christians are you here? Yes I'm sorry, The Jews were right!"

This style of thinking leads to the Atheist's wager. An Atheist can argue that god wants everybody to be kind to each other and work together and does not care all that much if they don't believe. Some people believe that if you are in the wrong religion you can still get into "heaven" based on how you lived your life.

I use this argument on those "special" people who say I am going to hell. I don't actually believe it but I take pride in living a moral life and doing the right thing without thinking my dead relatives or air spirits are watching me.

I wonder where that one guy is... you know... the guy that comes in and says that live is "the devil!" and we are all heathens. I saw him come through here once back when I first came to the board.

i assume you're talkin about me, but..... i don't think live is the devil.... i think everything is either for God, Jesus Christ, or against Him. and if that "thing" is not for Him, "it" is against Him. and, if "it" is against Him, "it" is pleasing to the devil, Satan.

the problem i really have with Live, is that they don't come right out and say what it is that they are saying. and, what they are saying is what ed believes. they are too ambigous, vague... whatever....

so, i'm not gonna sit there and try to enjoy something when it could be totally against what i believe. for someone that doesn't believe.... this sort of thing won't bother you, and you wont understand why it bothers me.

but, if you are a Christian, then i don't understand how you can sing Live's songs and not say to yourself...."this doesn't feel right". even if live isn't saying to worship the devil.... but, they are talking about spirituality, and faith, and everything that deals w/ religion.... and once i realized that... i could no longer listen to their music the same, again. i'm not gonna lie and say that i haven't ever listened to the music since, but just not NEAR as often and not NEAR the same way.
