Just looking to see if anyone can provide info on how the shows are going and the estimated playing times with Emerson Hart-CS- Live. My son, who I got hooked on Live and is now a huge fan, just turned 16 and I'm thrilled to be taking him to Live at the Fillmore. Their show last year here in Denver was incredible and he's gonna be floored. Anyway, the show starts at 7:30 and I'm just trying to see if anyone has an idea about how long Emerson and CS will play and an estimate of when Live might come on.

Thanks!

Who is opening? Last time I saw Live/Counting Crows, Live opened, which sucked. Anyone know? doesn't really answer your question, but might shed some light...

Can't wait for the show! I'll be there with a few friends.

TopHook, you got that right, their show at the Paramount last year was great! One of my favorite Live shows ever.

Here's my take on last night's show in Denver...
Show scheduled to start at 7:30pm with Emerson Hart and CS opening. I showed up with my 16yr old in tow at about 9pm - perfect timing as CS had just finished and many folks were streaming out. Was able to move up on the GA floor to about 20ft away. The Fillmore is a pretty small venue - a HS gym sized main floor that is all GA and some limited seating available on the raised sides. Overall a very cool place to see a show - not sure what the size is but my guess is 1000-1500 or so.

The boys came on just after 9:30...

All Over You
Waitress - a great version and lots of energy from Ed on this - he seemed to really want to get the crowd into it from the start.

The River
Mirror Song
Dolphins Cry
They Stood Up For Love
Selling the Drama
I Walk the Line
Wings
Beauty of Gray
Run To The Water

Ok, I have to say to this point the crowd was very lame. Don't know if it's because of the CS mix of fans, but Ed seemed to be doing his best to get the crowd into it, to no avail. When Live played the Paramount last year the energy in the crowd was about 10 times higher and kept growing for each song. This crowd was very disappointing, but fortunately their lack of energy didn't really seem to bring the band down. For the next song, though, Ed really kicked it into a different gear...

I Alone - high energy, great version, really working to get the crowd going.
Heaven - awesome - two songs in a row with the crowd now much more engaged

Encore...
Sophia
Lakini's Juice
Lightning Crashes

Overall I thought the band put on a really good show - just disappointed in the crowd. Certainly would have been much better with an "all-Live" audience.

Sorry for the delay, its been a crazy week. Here is my mini-review. Some friends took some picts, I'll post once I get them. Keep your eyes on DIME eyebrow.gif

The Fillmore was pretty crowded already, even though the first opener, Emerson Hart, was almost done with their set. We worked our way up just in front of the sound board.

I was very apprehensive of the crowd at the “co-headlining” shows, since 1/2 of the crowd is there to see one band and not the other. Collective Soul took the stage and played mostly new material and then broke out the hits for the rest of their set. Ed got the crowd going and put on a surprisingly entertaining show. Lots of singing along and thinking to myself, “wow I know a lot more of these songs than I thought”. However, Ed really needs to find something else to do on stage, his obsession with dancing with, swinging, tossing, etc. the mic stand was a little odd.

Overheard during the Collective Soul set “I didn’t know this was a Gin Blossoms song?” I’m not a fan of CS but come on! Please check you ticket stub. I think there needs to be some sort of quiz at the front door…”Name one song or album from the bands you are about to see.”

Live took the stage a new intro song that I had not heard before. The set started off great with All Over You and kept the energy going until about Wings where the “mixed” crowd lost interest in songs they really weren’t familiar with. However, from I Alone thru the encore the crowd was back in it. I still can’t wrap my head around the Lakini’s Juice > Lightening Crashes segue. Lakini’s Juice rocked. Chad T. was stomping and jumping throughout the set. The friends we went to the show with had never seen Live but had listened to them during their heyday and were impressed by the show. I thought it was a good show, good energy, but something was missing. Maybe it was the “mixed” crowd, the larger venue, the loss of energy in the middle of the set.

I just posted the recording to DIME: http://www.fansoflive.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1761

As I was tracking the CS set, I headed over to the CS.com forum for some help with the set list. Didn't find any info, but a few folks over there sure take an acrimonious tone in regards to Live. I didn't love the set either, but wow they need to learn to be a little more accepting. no.gif

What the fuck? Here are some quotes:

1. "I wasn't suprised to see how the place cleared out after Live took the stage. No disrespect intended, but the vocals sounded like a chipmunk on crack. I have always endoyed Live on the radio, I think I'll keep it that way."

2. "I've been to some pretty crazy concerts in my time and have never heard the likes of what I heard Sunday. Live sucked, plain and simple. Maybe they did have a bad night, but the way I see it, I pay for a good show and that is what I expect. I want to hear and feel the music I have paid for. Not look at the stage and wonder if I made a mistake while my ears are freaking out because they can't distinguish one sound from another. I have never been more disappointed in a band than I was that night. I own some of their music, and was really looking forward to seeing them. Well, never again. I would rather watch " starched pants" and a guy that "dances with his mic for an hour" have a great time with each other and their audience, and who's instruments and vocals are distinct, than some, fat, disillusioned, fool stomping around like some kind of freak, a back up vocalist you couldn't hear, and mush for sound any day. To each his own I guess. "

3. "I had never seen them before and I was never very into their music. I would have paid double for a double-set of CS."

I didn't care to waste my time reading any more, but I'm sure you can find them. I love the fact that SNJ1279 is a member of the CS board. Here's a quote of his I found:

I've seen Collective Soul open for Live 5 times this year, and each time I found the band to be very boring onstage. There energy is much lower than Live's and there is no interaction between band members during the set. There is a reason that Live headlined the tour and its because they have a larger overall fanbase and put on the better concert. Simple as that.

So true my friend in good concert taste, so very true!

I don't give a shit what these fucking crackheads say, Collective Soul totally sucks in concert. No questions, not debate. To steal a line from Kid Rock, they look like a bunch of wounded ducks up on stage. Simply said, their fans are fucked up in the ears!

i had always kind of like CS, i thought Dosage was a good CD so i was fairly pumped that they were opening for LIVE as i have never seen CS in concert. i decided to check out the CS board prior to the shows i went to and what a mistake. the people over there spew such hatred for LIVE that it really appears to me to be flat out jealousy. i mean you can knock LIVE about some things but their onstage performance is not one of them and they take that element to the 'nth degree...case in point at dallas: we had 6th row center stage tix and chose to skip over the CS show we caught in houston becuz it left little to be desired (ed roland from CS actually executed "spirit fingers" like a jr. high cheerleader to engage the crowd into frenzy) and my girlfriend and i could not stomach that again, we actually had another group of friends wait in anticipation at the dallas show for the ever so embarrassing line of ("you just saw collective soul, you know you f*cking liked it, now go tell your friends!) vomit.gif

as we made our way to the seats we were seated next to some CS fans that i asked how the show was and they looked at me like i was an idiot and raved how much energy and how great it was and they wondered why in the world we missed it. i mentioned we saw them the night before in houston and just didn't make it back it town in time to catch CS and that we were mainly there to see LIVE. the gentleman next to me in his early fourties informed me no way LIVE was gonna top what CS just did and that he had heard LIVE put on a boring show anyway...i asked where he had heard that and his generic answer was that everyone knew that was the case. as LIVE came on and had stepped their game up over the houston show in my opinion (IRIS and Operation Spirit!!!) the gentleman next to me was genuinely pissed off that so many people were rocking to LIVE and kept voicing that it wasn't fair that CS didn't get to play as loud as LIVE did and if they did all the people moving and shaking now would have done so and even more for CS. no.gif as it became more evident that LIVE was rocking this stage this guy's attitude went straight down the toilet to the point that our friendly conversation we had prior to the show turned to down right rude as he and his crew left after the show.

i can say this, i will never support CS or speak positive about their material or live shows due to their fanbase and CS's product on stage...their new single "hollywood" doesn't help either lol.gif

i believe the intro song they have been coming out to is God Don't Never Change, the Blind Willie Johnson song they had briefly covered.

Ed said the same thing in Denver. I have never heard such a blatant plug at a show.

I hadn't seen them in over ten years and enjoyed their set, I will probably pick up their best of disc since I don't have any of their CDs.
