I'd also like the studio version of Susquehanna, I believe it was recorded during the Throwing Copper sessions. I doubt that any live version they would use would be much different than the ones already in circulation.

Susquehanna rocks thumbsup.gif I don't care what else is on the album! They shoulda took "horse" off the album and put in Susquehanna.

quoted for agreement, Susquehanna is one of my fav live songs and I'll be real disappointed if it doesn't end up on the album, the version recorded at umm, I think it's Rhode Island uni is just about my favorite recording from Live, studio or from a gig.

I don't think Throwing Copper would have been nearly as strong without Horse added on to the end. It was the perfect foil to White, Discussion and ended the album on a real positive relaxed vibe.

Anyway, we'll keep our fingers crossed about Susquehanna being included in some form or another.

haha indeed. Almost every single little unknown band has put out a LIVE-cd or -dvd, and the 'famous' band that is named 'live', didn't. Still unbelievable. Bring that 2008 dvd, pleaz!!! bounce.gif

About re-recording: no I çan't imagine them re-record all those unreleased work again. Otherwise they could just re-record it in means of studio versions.

Ohw and, Lift me up was played a lot of times back in 1994. I think most of the times before TC was released. Just like Still Aroused was played several times, and some others.
But I think Live, or the management, or whatever, has many live recordings of the band that are really good, but that we never heard! They didn't put it at bootlegheaven or so, haha, but I think they will have a quite cool collection of recordings over the years, in which there will be a lot of good recordings of rare material

But it's all guessing. Guess we'll see it soon enough smile.gif

Btw, is there no possibility to just sign RadioActive again? and just own the rights again cool.gif they have no label at the moment, right?

I think Live's best oppurtunity to release a "live" album would have been 1996, when they weren't touring and Throwing Copper was finally spent. It would have kept them in the public consciousness, hopefully would have gotten good reviews to boost the "live" mystique of the band, they could have included a couple non-album songs.... perfect bridge to Secret Samadhi and possibly less fan dropoff in the late 90's.

I have a bunch of old SOY archives from 1994/1995 I could go through to see if there are any comments on Lift Me Up played live. It seems like "live" versions of that song would be more out there if it had been played live a lot.

Did Sony actually drop them or was it a mutual divorce? If they don't have a label, I wouldn't understand why they couldn't work out a deal to get the old b-side stuff released through Radioactive, like I mentioned before, it's money in both the band and the label's pockets if they work out a deal....these compilation albums should be no-brainers because there are very little content production costs, essentially just remastering and packaging and release.

If Radioactive is asking for too much money, there must be some major animosity between the band and the label. That band made Radioactive/MCA a lot of money (in the 90's at least).

does playing their (2?) new songs at the fall Tour means that we will here these at the first coming show, that is Sept 14th Bottle & Cork - Dewey Beach, Delaware ??

cuz I really gonna shit my pants when we will hear some reviews about new songs in only 1 week time from now on. omg.gif I'm really wondering what these songs will sound like.

Or, one could argue, vise versa.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Hold Me Up/Lift Me Up/Spew was ever played live back in the day? The studio version is the one I'd really want (as with most Live fans).

I'd also like the studio version of Susquehanna, I believe it was recorded during the Throwing Copper sessions. I doubt that any live version they would use would be much different than the ones already in circulation.

Do you have the demo tape versions of Lift Me Up and Susquehanna? While not the best quality, I'd say they are pretty damn good.

Is there a true studio demo of Susquehanna floating around? All the versions I have sound like tweaked versions of the 93 University of Rhode Island performance.

You know, I have a couple tapes from the early 93/94 era that I never completely listened to that I got from trading direct copies of my DoaD tape in the early SOY days. I should dig those out and make sure I don't have something that's not already circulating (I always hated trading tapes and sometimes not even listening to them...I preferred original CDs, silver bootlegs, etc)

Yeah, you can find a whole zip of the demo tape along with a lot of other rarities and stuff in my thread here:

Yeah, I have heard that before. The beginning of that track is such poor quality I could barely even listen to it and almost thought it sounded like someone tried to run a noise filter or something on a live version and made it sound terrible.

Upon careful (excrutiating) listening it does indeed sound like it could be a near final album mix... you can certainly tell why it didn't fit on the album, the tempo of that song would have killed the flow of Throwing Copper. It would have been an AWESOME b-side had they released any original b-sides during the Throwing Copper era.

Lift me Up is a good enough song that I can tolerate the poor quality available mix when I want to listen to it, but the poor quality of Susquehanna being a slow/quiet song makes it painful to listen to. I'll stick to the live versions on that.

To me that just seems silly to "re-record" the old bootleg/b-side stuff. Usually bands can work out agreements with previous labels, otherwise career spanning greatest hits albums would be non-existent for many artists.

I'd much rather hear the original recordings than re-recordings. Don't get me wrong, I'll take what I can get, but it would be impossible for the band to try and "emulate" the original recording. I don't think it would be nearly as interesting.

An example I would give is the difference between Good Pain on Death Of A Dictionary and Mental Jewelry. While the song rendition is almost the same, the recordings are very different. Ed's voice isn't as mature on DoaD, the guitar's a little "crunchier", it's just a different listening experience (I actually prefer the DoaD version).

If Live has finally decided to release a rarities album, it's primarily for the fans. Unless they have a really good reason for it, I think they'd be disappointing the fans by not trying to have the original recordings.

I totally agree about Good Pain onm DOAD. I love the whole album and Good Pain on their seems to be more raw and agressive. I just love that version, hints the screen name. I hope that something could be worked out with the guys at Radioactive. Being a true longtime fan (since 1990) I would love to hear a good copy of Lift Me Up especially. I like many fellow LIVE fans have copies of bootleg versions, but I really believe that this song, especially could still be a huge success. Here's to a new LIVE album and hopefully a lot of success.
