Yep. If I Walk the Line is a flop then so are almost all of Live's songs.

On the other hand, most of Live's recent singles were indeed flops. But that's kind of unrelated...

Heaven was a huge hit. Run Away got some good airplay on the hot a/c market. We Deal in Dreams and The River didn't do well in the US.

It was never released as a single, therefore it can't be considered a flop. That's like saying Iris was a huge flop for the band. It just doesn't make sense.

Sorry - you are right. I believed the song was released as a single for some reason.

As for their singles before and after .... yes major flops.

Getting on radio doesn't necessarily mean your work is good, it means that you have a label that is willing to spend big bucks to promote you. Case in point, Heaven was a huge flop when released under Radioactive Records, however once Geffen took over as Live's label, the song climbed the charts steadily for nearly a year. It is all about the funds behind a song that make it a hit on the charts in the majority of cases.

We can blame the records all we want but if the product doesn't shine no one is going to notice it. I am pretty certain if you were to ask the band why their recent singles flopped they're not going to use the record labels as their scapegoats.

You can't tell Nick that, unfortunatly he is of the firm beliefe that Live would be the biggest band in the world if it wern't for those damn pesky do nothing record companies! Of course if the record company pushed it to high heaven the people who do whatever advertising tell them to do are going to buy it which would push Live's popularity up .. but really, who the fuck wants to gain fans that way? Unless you're money hungry I guess.

I Walk the Line is probably the most rockin' and edgiest song Live has released in recent years.

Yeah indeed, it's also quite different in production than Live's recent album-tracks, I think.
I was wondering 'bout who produced this song, because it wasn't really in one of their album-era's. Wasn't this mr. Chad Taylor himself?

Yeah I've realized this about Nick. It's a all matter of opinion though. I would guess most fans would attribute Live's recent failures to the quality of the music released on the last few albums. All we can really do it hope and pray that their next album won't be another flop. I really can't see how they could release another disappointing album and survive it.

Nick is right that the money behind the song is just as important as the song. However, that's if the songs are good and marketable to begin with. Heaven and The River are good Hot AC songs, but they are played by an alt rock band that does not look like the face of Hot AC. The product has to suit its performers, and that's Live's biggest problem.

Hey hey HEy HEY!!!

Aren't you guys supposed to be insulting people? nervous.gif

I agree with you guys though and Nick somewhat as well. Heaven got lots of push until Geffen realized it STILL wasn't making BOP sell. Whoever chose to release Runaway as a second single is a complete retard, dumber than a bowl of Captain Crunch or even a pair of shoes....

Either way, EX hit the nail right on top of it's gigantic head. Live are out of their genre and are not the face of Hot AC. they need to be able to release into all markets to survive. Live still has Alt rock fans but songs like The River makes those fans wanna hurl. Heaven did OK in both markets and Like I Do would have done the same and even better.

Instead they put out Run Away and people started laughing. I honestly believe that Heaven was a small success and that it was the start of a comeback for these guys. I think Run Away is what has done this band in for good. An utterly horrid choice for a second single and in my opinion, the worst song Live has ever made. I'm embarassed for them when I hear it to the point of wanting to manually choke myself into unconciousness.

People think of Live as a driving and anthemic arena rock band. Then they hear Heaven and are on the fence about it's content. Then their next two choices for singles are Run Away and The River? That's utterly weak and pathetic. Anybody who can't admit to that is simply lying to themselves. If you're gonna make sub par music, at least put the best of it out there and not the songs that make people wanna puke up their breakfast.

quoted for agreement!

But whoever chose to make that ugly un-Live like video for the duet-version of Run Away with Shelby Lagalgdenageo (don't know her name anymore) is even more complete in being a retard, it was shame to put that 3 / 4 minutes on the Awake dvd omg.gif uuaghh!

i heard an interview on the radio this morning with chris daughtry and the dj asked about his influences and stuff, so of course live and Ed came up. they talked about the re-recording of mystery and then he said, and the quote is not correct in my head anymore as that was about 730 this morning, but sometime to the effect that he and ed have written something together that hasnt been heard yet...........that is all he said but i thought that might be of interest to some folks, or a complete load of BS.
