Here in North America I am conscious of Live's standing and popularity as a band in our social culture.

I am wondering how Live is viewed on other continents, especially Europe, Australia, and Africa. It seems to me that they are publically much more popular overseas than they are at home. I am wondering if anyone from these areas can comment on the popularity of the band?

Here in Australia every album since Secret Samadhi has debuted in the top 5 (most have reached #1). Live has a loyal fan base in Australia and even SFBM reached #3. That being said, it soon fell out of the top 50 and has only received "Gold" status (35,000 units sold).

I don't listen to the radio much, so I can't comment on their radio play but people tell me that they hear mostly tracks from Throwing Copper and also whatever the latest single happens to be.

In terms of concerts, Live still sell very well. Live only tour Australia when they've released an album so that ensures that people are aware that they're touring. For the SS, TDTH, V and BOP tours Live were playing back to back nights in 12,000+ seat Entertainment centres in the big capital cities of Sydney & Melbourne - This didn't occur for the Awake and SFBM tours.
I have no doubt that Live could continue to tour Australia solely on the base of their previous efforts. In my opinion, Live hasn't attracted many new fans with their last few albums but the old school fans continue to show up to shows.

I know 5 people from Russia who listen to LIVE.

Although I heard RA, TDC and River on radio. And Russian MTV got me hooked as it did quite a promotion for TDTH. They even showed MTV Unplugged back in 99.

Since then on I only saw SC once and E/R love once.

That was it.

Yeah I agree with dangum. Songs from Throwing Copper get played alot.

I recently went to Scotland after a European Contiki tour, and I met a 24yr old girl from Glasgow who had never heard of Live or even heard some of the songs I gave her a listen to. I thought that was a little strange and dissapointing. Anyway she liked what she heard.

Live always sell out their concerts quick here in Norway, on the SFTBM tour they had to put up a x-concert. The club takes about 1200-1300.
I just know about 2-3 other people that listen to Live. The only reason my friends have heard about them is because I like them.
Their cd's always enter the charts, they stay for some weeks and then disaper.I think I saw a tv comercial for SFTBM twice (before the album was out) and hear Mystery once on the Radio. V is the only Live cd to have top the chart.
Awake did great here.
5-6 months after it went out of the list after just one week, they ran tv comercials fot it on a smaler tv station, it got back to the chart and sold about 70-80 000, thats a lot in Norway.
But they didn't start playing the songs on the radio.

Here's a link that shows how many weeks they have been on the charts, it dosen't show how many copy's they have sold.
Uke = weeks

Ahh i am posting into this forum solely for the what i just saw on tv, haha!

Every morning when im getting ready for school (sounds odd? haha in year 12 now, almost finished) i have my tv on, and onto a morning news show which we call Sunrise in Australia, and going in and out of an adbreak they had this morning, they were playing the chorus to Simple Creed along with random views of sunsets and such; was great! haha certainly caused me to turn around immediately when i heard it.

Here in north queensland, Live is relatively unknown, although they still get regular airplay on most radio stations; majority of throwing copper and the distance to here singles, also i've heard the river and mystery numerous times. They are still my favourite band, probably always will be, and thats quite odd to look at when you consider some of my other favourite bands, but hey. I've passed on some of Live's music to some of my friends from time to time, and each of them have absolutely loved it and craved for more, haha so they went out and bought the rest of the albums themselves thumbsup.gif

Here in Holland they are extreme popular with the die hard fans.
But when i tell people around me i`m going to a concert of Live no one knows where i`m going to...until i sing a song of them( ahum i try to sing at least) then they all say oooooooooo i know that song.
Almost every day we here 1 Live song on the radio. And the dj has a tape with Ed`s voice( hi this is Ed Kowalczyk from the band Live and you`re listning to Gerard Ekdom) and many times we here that one too

What Live inside says, in The Netherlands (aka Holland) Live is pretty well known although album sales are not very strong since Birds of Pray. Still national radio plays quite a lot of songs from Live, shows sell out quickly and The Netherlands is the only country I know of which has a fan club with 800 members, runned by volunteers.

I was always under the impression that Live was extremely popular overseas. Here in the U.S. Live is viewed (at least in my region) primarily as a 90's band. Almost everyone is unaware that they are still putting out music (if they know who they are). It stinks, but in a way it is nice because they tour in Michigan frequently and I can always get tickets.

aLIVEinNORWAY - I'm wondering why a person from Norway has the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo for their avatar. Any reason?

From what I can gather from the people I've mentioned Live to in the past, I am THE one singular English fan.

In Sweden - aka metal/dansband/hiphop&rnb-nation - LIVE doesn't appear to be that well known. I do know that BoP reached the nr. 1 spot first week of sales, but then droppen out of top 10. I think it was the amped guitars that made some of the metal-Swedes go "huh? Let's have a listen" smile.gif Cirkus (takes about 1800 people) was sold out on the BoP tour.

Live had their "second of fame" here solely during the years of success of “Throwing Copper”. From then, neither the television networks or the radios broadcasted their videos/songs ever. In spite of everything, some people DO know the band, specially because I forced them to hear their albums... ha ha ha ha banana.gif

As they never played live here, I cannot know exactly what call they could have. Most of the albums can be found today in the stores, but at its moment I had to buy “The Distance To Here”, “V” and “Birds of Pray” via Internet.

As I told you in a previous post, a recent Ford TV ad used “Turn My Head” as a soundtrack, and then everybody start screaming “Oh my god! What a fabulous song! Who they are...?”

I can really say, without fear to exaggerate, that I must be the one and only Live's die-hard fan here in Argentina. In an imaginary popularity scale from 1 to 10, I'd give Live a 0.25. It's sad, but true. But hey! I still love them!

Greetings from Buenos Aires.
Scar

PD: Once again, sorry about my poooooooor english.
