Obviously you don't know much about Ricky Martin or you would agree that Ed should not be compared to him. I think we are closer in agreement about Ed than you think.

Yuk, you can't compare Ed to Ricky Martin !!!!!

Hmm maybe you're on to something then. I can't possibly dislike Ed's actions for any other reason than being gay huh. That is intelligent.

Funny, I actually agreed with your other points. The ones that were valid, and well-argued, not just name-calling.

NO. I'm just of the opinion that anybody who has a problem with it has issues.

If I were hot and sweaty, moving around and drinking beer, I'd take my shirt off too. So what if he does it to appease some of the ladies who happen to like it? It's no wonder women like his body, he's done a lot with it over the years, considering he was once a skinny little hairy squirrel lookin' mofo.

I could care less if he takes his shirt off, it's the energy and the music that matters to me. Your hang ups are your problem.

If I dislike something that you like, then obviously I must have some underlying psycological issue, right? There can be NO other reason. It can't just be that we have two differing opinions.

Again, it's pretty foolish for you to tell me not to voice my opinion on a discussion board.

Basically its like this....

If you've been following Live for a long time and attending the shows you know this as Ed and like most, dont even care or notice.

If you're newer to the circuit I could see it as being "cheesy" since Live is no longer relevant.

HUH???? Where did I tell you not to voice your opinion on a message board??? Tell me, where?

What's foolish is you making that statement and beginning it with AGAIN.

Also, I never said anything about you having underlying psychological issues because you dislike something that I don't mind. Quit dredging up these imaginary scenarios in your tiny little head. I stated an opinion that I think you're phobic because of your view. That's my opinion ok? Don't turn it into something entirely different in order to justify your meek attempt at making me look the bad guy.

And quit calling people foolish for doing something they didn't even come close to doing. It makes you look the fool.

Bottom line is I think you're a closet case and you think it's something else. Let's agree to disagree.

You said my hang-ups are my problem.. aka I should keep them to myself.

My point was that in your limited brain, there are only two scenarios: 1) being cool with the shirt thing 2) being gay.

You, essentially, are a fool, for trying to make this discussion personal without even knowing me.

If you need me to spell this out more for you, let me know.

I can definitely see the point that has been made about the rehearsed similarity of the performances and that it would be better if they just threw the setlist out the window and came out and did a raw unrehearsed rock show.

I love seeing the show Live puts on and I will never get tired of it. I see them almost a half a dozen times a year. But after seeing the White Stripes in concert last week I can tell you, the raw energy and brilliance and creativity of Jack and Meg White out there just laying it out on the line is amazing art! I wish that Ed and Live wrote and played songs more like this now:

Ok phobe, I'm letting you know.

Because now you are calling me a fool for something entirely different....another attempt at self justification? Trying to avoid the fact that you made an invalid accusation in the first place but can't admit it, hence the lame ass attempt at self justification.

Saying your hang up are your problem means exactly that. Where the hell does "aka, keep them to myself come from?" And you say my brain power is limited? How do you manage to miscontrue me saying it's your problem into that? Another phobish attempt at self justification huh?

That's way more cheesy than anything Ed has ever done, let me tell you. Me telling you that your hang ups are your problem being turned into keeping it to yourself is an outright joke and shows that you're not only a closet case, but an outright retard. Please go back to school and learn some lessons in context. Not just the meanings that suit your methods neither. Learn how they are used for reasons OTHER than those that suit you and support your maniacal attempts at justifying your own warped perspective.

People like you who turn what others say into something entirely different are utterly pathetic. You remind of your idiotic president, Mr George W....who talks so much shit, that he's getting tired of shovelling himself out from underneath it. Nothing he says makes sense and the moron spends all his time justifying his own idiotic presidency instead of being a man and admitting that he's made several douche moves. He's brainwashed so many of you idiots into that exact method of thinking. Don't accept blame!!!! Blame it on somebody else using idiotic diatribe and double talk!!!

I see right through you moron boy. So please, lets hear some more bs. Tell me how I'm doing this and that just because I stated an opinion different than yours....it's the American way!!!

QUOTE(tiger @ Aug 3 2007, 12:58 pm) *

I hardly ever post here but had to agree on this one. Ed has evolved into and embraced the whole rock star thing. Back in the day Ed never would have done this or acted this way. In fact, when they shot their first video for MTV and were asked to take their shirts off, they all cringed and took issue with it. I've been there since day one and I've seen the evolution. It really kicked in during the V era when he got all into Henry Miller and tantric sex. It's all very cheesy and nothing like the beginning. I remember a show from the Mental Jewelry tour when he came out in his hoodie, stood in one place and sang with such conviction. It was pretty mesmerising and menacing. I'd say things are a little different these days.

I think this is a good point. This is all just a manifestation of a band's evolution. People change, people's priorities and perspectives change. We're seeing the results of that and I don't begrudge them for it at all. I don't live a rock star's life, I don't know what is going on in his head, and knowing what little of Ed we know from his music, I think it's safe to give him the benefit of the doubt and say his motives are not all that dark and that this whole thing shouldn't be a big deal.

I went to two shows last summer (I'm definitely not a casual fan, I just can't make it to shows very often). They were different than the one I saw in 90s, but they were singing different songs, too. The first show last summer was rather lacking in energy, but Ed was sick and came on two hours late. It was nice of him to do the show anyway because it was a free show. He even tried being energetic, but either he just wasn't into it or didn't feel good or was feeling funny from the "butt shot" (his words). The crowd I guess was in a bad mood because they weren't giving him much love. I didn't care. I still enjoyed the music they gave me that night and I had a blast. I ended up feeling sorry for the band because the crowd didn't give them much to feed off of when they probably didn't want to be there.

I saw them a month or so later, and they kicked ass. But I was up much closer to the stage and Ed was on fire (seemingly so). Everything seemed to flow a lot better compared to the first show. I think I saw more of the "real" Ed when it comes to music that night. He was giving what he wanted to give and responding to the crowd. It just so happens that he factors sex and being crazy into having fun during the show these days. I'm sure it looks rehearsed in part because it is; only to give him something to fall back on when he's caught up in the moment and loses track of what's going on or when he doesn't feel into it.

Maybe part of the problem is that a lot of things factor into what vibe you pick up in the crowd. Where you are in the audience, who you're standing by...

I guess I just feel weird criticizing such a small thing when it's not about psychoanalyzing Ed and his motives and reasons. That's a private matter if you ask me. *shrug* I am the type that always gives people the benefit of the doubt. At a concert, it's about having fun and putting petty things like this aside to get to the heart of the music and become one with the crowd.

I guess I am just selfish and I don't want to think about whether he looks cheesy during my concert tomorrow. Lynn, I'm with you there! wink.gif After all, I'm a dork like Ed... I want the right to act like a crazy person without judgment too. It's a concert for f*ck's sake! We should all have permission to be whatever we want to be at a concert.

My intention for this topic was simply to see what people's general opinions were on the matter. I agree that there's not much more to disect once everyone's weighed in.

LiveROCKs, something tells me you masturbate to your own posts.
