One of the biggest reasons for going to shows is to enjoy the collective energy of the room.

I'm usually up in front of the stage and everyone, as well as myself seem like they are enjoying themseles and are usually screaming and whistling at the end of every song, except for the occasional drunk!!!!! That much I do notice!!!!

I don't recommend Adam D taking off his shirt however, now that would offend me!

My two cents ...

I've been to a few shows myself over the last 12+ years (well, maybe not as many as some here) but I honestly don't pay attention to the whole shirt thing. Ed is a rockstar, the lead singer, guy in the spotlight, he needs to feed his ego. If it were someone Jessica Simpson or Beyonce (sorry, can't think of any other female artists right now), would the guys oppose to them stripping down to show a little flesh? My thought, probably not. If I had a hot body, I'd probably flaunt it more often too! lol.gif

Ed has said in interviews that many of his fans are female so I'm sure that's part of it. He's an entertainer. He's a good-looking guy with a great body. And he's a guy who knows it. I don't oppose to him doing it - I think it's sexy and hot! tongue.gif It probably is rehearsed. But who cares. I don't. I go to their shows to rock out and go crazy and get away from the "real" world for awhile. If Ed takes off his shirt or is being all sexual, fine. Whatever. I'm not going to dislike their music or performance because of it. I don't pay attention to points of their show where this and that takes place ... I'm paying attention more to the music and sound, I guess. If things like this are being pointed out, then every show I go to now, I'll be making a mental note of these discussions, and it may ruin my fun.

Granted, the whole stage presence today is not like the past but the band has evolved, matured, etc. We all grow in our professions. They're musicians. They're paid to sell tickets and play kick ass music and entertain. It should all be taken at face value and nothing more.

Welcome Patrick! hi.gif

I see everyone's points on this topic. I understand how it can offend some and how for others it's no big deal.

I'm personally there for the music and to see my LIVE friends. I agree, it can feel a bit repetative with all the things that were mentioned that Ed does...even with the crowd waving their arms in the air during Dolphin's Cry, but it doesn't bother me enough to really complain about it. I could do without the shirt coming off or the grinding during Show and AOY, but I still love when Ed marches around the stage during Lakini's Juice. It's one of my favorite parts of the concert. tongue.gif

No, I'd rather have him grope himself and run around like Ricky Martin. He didn't just stand there the whole show. But the fact that he could and it was more entertaining than anything he does today was the point.

Live were at their best when Ed groped himself ocassionally and ran around like "Ricky Martin"

The days of the rat tail and the SNL Lakini's Juice performances were flat out wicked. When they perform White Discussion and Ed is running around sreaming and going nuts is when Live are at their best. Debate that all you want, you won't win that argument with me.

Ed dancing around like a freak and looking like he's having a seizure during I Alone is what made LIVE, well.....LIVE. That was what made those songs such maddening friggin rock, the energy and passion that went into performing them. That is what people today don't get to see anymore except on rare ocassion.

few items

if I don't like the shirt removal, it's because I FEEL gay and get uncomfortable. I think that rationale is very small-minded. Is it possible that I don't like the shirt removal, and yet have no sexuality issues?

No.

I don't recall Ed groping or shaking his bon bon to Lakini's Juice, White Discussion or I Alone. That is an argument that you won't win.

The only time that I recall Ed "shaking his bon bon" (he, he!) is when he sings Sophia and he put his hand down his pants for Show. I totally didn't have a problem with neither!!!!

Well that's nice!!! Shut your face and go back and watch the video of it then!! I have the video here and he does grab himself during it.

Also, I don't or never have seen Ed shake his whatever faggy little name you called it. That was not an issue here so don't make it one. Stick to the point. The issue was him running around and the groping. You lost. Those old performances of those songs were when LIVE were at their best. Argue the point at least.

The old videos of songs like I Alone is what made Live the energetic, passionate rock band they WERE. That was my argument. Don't go adding nonsense or changing it into something different.

I think you are just looking for an argument because I stated earlier that I preferred Ed earlier in his career, before he got all Ricky Martin. For the record, Shake your Bon Bon is a Ricky Martin song. Obviously you don't know much about Ricky Martin or you would agree that Ed should not be compared to him. I think we are closer in agreement about Ed than you think.

Hmm maybe you're on to something then. I can't possibly dislike Ed's actions for any other reason than being gay huh. That is intelligent.

Funny, I actually agreed with your other points. The ones that were valid, and well-argued, not just name-calling.

I know we are.

And I'm actually proud to not know much about Ricky Martin? hehe.gif
