This is my first time posting anything but the show last night up in Milwaukee in Summerfest still has me feeling good even after a good night's sleep. The band sounded wonderful last night, the best I've heard since the Riviera in Chicago back in November of 1999.

They played a cover by someone whose name I didn't catch but it was called "God Don't Ever Change". A great, driving blues rock song with some great lines from Chad on the guitar. Did anybody catch the artists name who originally wrote the song? If you were there, what did you think of the song? I thought it was great choice to spice up the setlist.

The song was a cover of a "Blind Willie Johnson" song. I was floored by the song....in fact, I forced myself to burn the name into my memory so I could read up on 'ol Blind Willie today. It was a freaking kick ass song - I really wanted to hear the original to see how much they changed it.

When Ed said they had only played the song twice in front of "real people," I was expecting something along the lines of Supernatural, another cover they like to play in concert. But this thing freaking rocked! I really don't know what to compare it to in terms of a LIVE song, but the way they ripped through it reminded me of White, Discussion. Halfway through the song, Ed says "so what do you think so far?" with a big smile on his face. He knew the answer.

Anyway, I would kill for a recording of it. I know this is the place to ask, so I will - any chance anyone can get their hands on a recording from last night in Milwaukee?

It was something like Blind Willie Johnson or Nelson??? Was a pretty bomb.com song or at least the way the played it was. Said this was only their second time ever playing it infront of people.

EDIT: Looks likes somebody beat me to it.

I've only been able to find a 30 second clip of the original on Amazon.com.

I didn't realise that this topic was already here. I can't wait to hear this song in concert! Looks like the band has been listening to pleas to liven up the setlist.

SJN - in response to the other topic you started, I have to fess up that LiveRiverside = benderb on SOY. I'm hoping to stir up enough response to find a recording.

That's cool, welcome aboard. If the band plays it enough, I'm sure a recording will turn up. I'm dying to hear it as well!

Such a relatively obscure blues song to cover. Maybe this signals a new direction for Live - towards a Blues sound? Chad Taylor clearly loves the blues. I hope so, I have been listening to nothing but Blues music for a long time on the blues channel on my Sirius sattelite radio.

Sounds amazing, I don't think I've seen a band do as many amazing covers as Live have, I think all of their covers exceed the originals and Willie Johnson is awesome so a cover of his is gonna rock Live-Style .. looking forward to hopefully a recording surfacing. Love me the blues!

The band Train is excellent when it comes to cover songs. Did you check them out when they opened for Live?

Well what about a Led Zepelin kind of Blues sound? Or maybe like the Walk The Line cover. Or maybe like the "georgie Case" song Ain't No Use. Or maybe whatever it was they played the other night, because all I've ready about the Blind Willie cover is that it was awesome.

If you heard it done LIVE-style, you would not mistake it for a blues song. It was most definitely done as a rock song! It rocked far, far more than anything on SFBM (ok, not saying much). The term "cover" is pretty loose. It's one thing to re-record a song as it was originally written. It's quite another to take the basic components of a song and rock it out.

I don't know what direction LIVE will go, but if they decide to make more songs like that, I'm all for it.
