I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just stating my observation over the past month. This website has been on a steady decline since it's changed ownership.

The reason for this is the laser like focus on the message board. In the past this was a Website with a Message Board as a feature. Today it is primarily a message board. The other features of the site, such as the News, Setlist, and MP3 sections are sorely neglected.

For example, in the past the News would be updated regularly with actual tour dates and additions as they were announced. This doesn't happen. I would of at least thought that the discovery of an unannounced date at PNC Park (not even on friendsoflive.com) would have made the cut. Apparently this was not news worthy, only message board material.

One of the great things about Live being on tour was that you could always check out the Setlist section to submit concert reviews, see what the band had played the previous day, and see what others thought about it. This was kept up on a daily basis when the band was on tour and it was done so for years. Under past ownership the entire tour would be currently found under the Setlist section with active links to all of the concerts that had been played so you could submit the setlist, what people thoughtabout it, and pictures of the show. Today you can't check out anything out about a concert after June 10th. That was almost a month ago. People who post the setlists, pictures, and concert reviews can't even place them in this section anymore. It's no longer kept current. Fans who contribute to this section have be relegated to posting them on the message boards. It's a shame, because this was an awesome record of their concert tours as they happened.

The MP3 section has always been great. It used to always have a Featured Concert you could download and Featured Songs which were unreleased items and different versions of recorded stuff. They were always awesome quality. I've already mentioned this in previous postings.

The Bottom Line - I'm glad this site still exists, it's great to check out. It's a shame, however, that it is turning strictly into a message board. I hate to see things I enjoy go down the shitter.

I feel that the new owners have good intentions and a desire for this site to stay great, but they lack the passion and commitment it actually takes to keep it up to date and current. Nectardan sold this site for a reason, it actually takes a lot of work to maintain it at the quality he did.

As for the new owners, the site belongs to them and if they want it to simply be a message board that is fine. That's not the only reason I check here though. I would, for example, love to check out the actual Setlists and reviews of the past few shows and submit my info today after the show to the section. I guess I'll be relegated to the message board.

I hope this is not the permanent situation, but as Ed says "I'll believe it when I see it for myself"

Very fair criticisms. I lack the computer knowledge on how to update the main site. When I purchased the site with Greg last year, my responsibilities were to update the message board and update news as much as possible. Greg's duties were to update the main site and all technical aspects. However, Greg started a new job and hasn't been able to put the necessary time to fulfill his end of the duties. Dan has been nice enough to help me out when possible, but that really isn't his job.

If you or anyone else has any ideas on how to improve things, I'm willing to listen.

Nick,

I really appreciate your candor and and even to acknowledge your limitations in being able to update the main page. I hope that some folks from this board with the right skill set will be willing to contribute to being part of the solution.

Thanks for being open and receptive.

I do want this to continue to be the great site that it was!

Maybe the site can somehow be integrated into a more interactive site, so that members can post updates and stuff? It can be done. I don't know if Nick or Greg plan to do a redesign of the site or just leave it as it is, but I'm sure they're open to suggestions.

I never noticed the actual website... I always make a beeline for the forums. I feel like if I can make comments about the news and get away with it in the forums then why even read the news? An expanded mp3 section would be pretty sweet but I dunno what else can be done to attract the average live fan into using the site more often. huh.gif
