Hi everyone, I was listening to V alot lately trying to learn to like every part of it (It is working!) but I can't help but think some of the lyrics were a little uninspired/quickly thrown together. I understand the rappy sound permits for nonsense lyrics as long as the beat is good but why can't we have both? I was thinking over one of the worst violaters, Like a Soldier, and I wrote new lyrics to it that I believe make more sense. Some parts of it still need help like if the rap part at the end could be redone but I cannot come up with anything to fill it bomb.gif .

My favourite part of my version is

and if you follow me
I'll lead you back again
to return everything we stood for

I'll post the original first then I'll post mine with the changes

I just come down from the mountain
a happy man
turned on the television, should of chewed off my hand
i'm sick of all the false glory
"in god we trust"
show me one dollar bill that hasn't passed through the cuss

and if you break my will
i will come back again
to destroy everything you stood for
oh!

i will go on
like a soldier
through the storms of love
and i
take you back, take you away from here
my friend
and charge you up again

we just come down from the mountain
where the breezes were blowin
and everything was growin
like some tree in the bush
still i gotta live my life here
with some pretty scary bretheren
but now i'm a rebel on a mission baby
to live and die by my smile

and if you break my will
i will come back again
to destroy everything you stood for
oh yeah!

i will go on
like a soldier
through the storms of love
and i
take you back, take you away from here
my friend
and charge you up again
charge you up again
charge you up again, yeah

let's go to ray's, not to pizza hut
let's go to the pig, not to starbux
let's vote for nader, what are we waitin for?
i'm gonna live to be a hundred and sixty four
to the crib then back to the studio
to write a song so good
make a midget grow
from the north pole, down to mexico
if you don't know the words, fuck it!
let's go!

Pretty good already... but with lyrics like "Passed through the cuss" and "chewed off my hand" it made me wonder.

I just come down from the mountain
A peaceful heart
turned on the television, and it
tore me apart
I'm sick of all the false glory
What do we need?
one more dollar bill to fuel
our insatiatiable greed?

And if you follow me
I'll lead you back again
to return everything we stood for
Oh!

I will go on
Like a soldier
through the storms of love
and I
take you back, take you away from here
my friend
and show you peace again

We just come down from the mountain
Where the breezes were blowin'
and everything was growin'
like moss on a tree
But still I gotta live my life here
with some pretty scary bretheren
But now I'm a rebel on a misson baby
To live and die in my style

and if you follow me
I'll lead you back again
to return everything we stood for
Oh Yeah!

I will go on
like a soldier
through the storms of love
and I
take you back, take you away from here
my friend
and show you peace again
show you peace again
show you peace again, yeah

(Omit Rap Part)

Give my version a try while listening to the song smile.gif I'd like feedback! Also, if anyone out there has a song they think needs a lyric changed to something more obvious I'd like to hear about it because I'm open to things like that.

I love V and this song. dance.gif
But I must agree that rap at the bridge of this song should have never been. It's the most embarrasing thing that ever came out of Ed's mouth. " to make a midget grow"
*argh shudders* no.gif

But I do like "if you don't know the words, fuck it, lets go"

I actually like everything else about the song. Even "passed through the cuss" and "chewed off my hand"

I like your lyrics better than the original. Nice job! That really is a pretty good song.

Nice job!

You should redo Flow. Just omit all of the parts where Ed is screeming "FLOW" in the high pitched voice. The song would totally rock.

lol.gif Yeah, not a fan of that either. I just ignore Ed when it gets to that part and focus on Chad T singing "come inside, come inside...."
You know what? I would love to hear Chad T sing some more. Maybe on the next album. That would be cool singing.gif

I've always wondered if they got paid for throwing out names like Pizza Hut and Starbucks.

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I'm pretty sure CT does backing vocals on Where Do We Go From Here. Agreed, it'd be truer to their concert form to have CT do more backing vocals.

Thanks to everyone who liked my lyrics! It didn't take alot of time to create because it kinda flowed cept the rap part. huh.gif I didn't figure I'd receive much positive feedback considering I've never written lyrics before and I just put what sounded good and what I felt "stood for" Live. I don't think the original lyrics or much of the first half of V really stood for Live.

I might start to redo lyrics on another song but probably not "Flow." That song is hard to work with.

I would really like to see others do something like this thumbsup.gif

I go back and forth with V, sometimes I think its great and like it alot as it is. Other times I'll listen to it and think they should have spent a little more time on it. All I do know is its nice clean sounding music without being typical or boring. It goes a lot of places and thats cool.

I have alternat lyrics for Century - instead of "puke stinks like beer" I sing "mystery is near"..kinda stole it from flow - which I think is a kick ass song that should open their shows.

I like the LAS alternate lyrics, but leave Century alone. Your version jives with the melody and rhymes with the preceding line, but makes no sense in the context of the song. That puke stinks like beer line is crucial to the meaning of the song. Seriously.

I think you guys both miss the point of that line. The song is about how people in modern societies get lost in ideas and trivial problems (everybody's anxious for the coming of the crisis; the followers of Aldous are spinning with their mescaline; you stole my idea) when they lose sight of the more important aspects of a healthy existence -- the raw, unadulterated physical world (puke stinks like beer; I can smell your armpits). Those lines may seem out of place, but it's a great juxtaposition of the two extremes. Ed wants a return to an appreciation of the latter rather than the former, and thus wants to lay waste to this century.

So, when you have pretty meaningful and clever lyrics like that, replacing "puke stinks like beer" with "mystery is near" ruins the juxtaposition of the two ideas and therefore the entire meaning of the song. Just because it sounds deeper doesn't mean that it is!

Best post I've EVER read on this site bud. Thanks for the read(seriously)

But don't expect the masses of well below average intelligence to understand it. They'd rather bitch and complain because it's easier for them. Rather than hurt themselves trying to contemplate the real meaning behind the method of somebody elses thinking.

Wouldn't want to do that now!!! Brainless, narrow minded assholes.
