Wednesday, June 13, Rush kicked off it's tour in celebration of it's new release, Snakes and Arrows. The setlist was a bold departure. They dropped lots of standards, brought back some relics and an old fan favourite which has never been played live, and played nine songs from their new album. Seventeen of the twenty-seven songs are from just three of their eighteen albums. The first three albums and several others are not represented, with the late eighties and nineties practically ignored ignored. They really mixed it up this time!

Of course there is a boot on dime and vids are popping up on YouTube. Find their tour dates at http://www.rush.com

I have never gotten such a negative reaction when I post tour information about LiVE on the Rush boards. What's your problem?

it's just weird that you post so much crap about some band that no one is here to talk about.

It's not really off-topic when there is a Rush topic once every week or two. Maybe there should be a "Rush" section on this message board that he can post in.

not only are there rush threads, there are daughtry, nickelcrack, oops, i mean nickeback, CS, tool, NIN and others if you dig deep enough.

btw, its nick and greg's job to be the "keeper of the threads"....not a 17 year old slamming her elders.

You exagerate. There is only one other Rush topic and no one has posted on that since early May.

You should see how many LiVE topics there are on Rush boards. You also need to realize that there are people on this board who like Rush and would be interested.

Also, clicking on a thread is always voluntary. If you don't like threads about Rush, don't read them, just as I do with the threads about Nickelback.

This thread title doesn't knock Live, so what the heck is wrong with it? Its off-topic and the guy really likes Rush. I have a 2 Rush questions for you:

1. Do they change the setlist at all during the tour, or will they keep it exactly the same every night?

2. How many shows will you be seeing this time around?

1. They play the same show every night. In '02 there was an alternate setlist that changed three songs. In years past on the second leg they have changed it up a little. Since each song has a specific light show it's not that easy to be extemporaneous.

2. I have tickets for two shows but hope to go to four total.

I was at the Portland show last Saturday. Here are some thoughts:

This was certainly one of my most memorable Rush concerts, with many special aspects. I drove up Friday with my dear friend Rose who is my age and has loved Rush forever. She told me that she had to buy the cassette of 2112 three times because her son's friends kept stealing it. Yet she had never seen Rush in concert before. Rose always uses the word 'spiritual' when she speaks of Rush.

We stayed at the Motel 6 in North Portland at the Expo, with a Shari's located nearby. The motel was full of weird people with fancy dogs, in town for a show. Outside our window was a parking lot with a Car Toys Tent Sale, with noisy vehicles buzzing around. We were in town to see Rush.

It was overcast and 70 degrees the whole time, with an occasional light shower, though it did not rain during the show. The sky was artistic, reminiscent of Grace Under Pressure. After laying around the room all day Saturday we went to the meetup. It was awesome to see my Portland peeps again and meet some new ones! As always there was not enough time, but it was nice to at least touch base. Rose and I had to leave the meetup a little early too. We have a friend from Ashland who finished college last year and lives in Portland now who was going with us to see Rush for his first time. He had to work until six so we went back to the hotel to meet him.

So, off we went up I-5 to the show. Just when we got to the 134th St exit all lanes were clogged, with a couple of miles yet to the venue. So we got off the freeway at the last second and went to the Park and Ride shuttle which was right at that exit. The bus took a back route that expressed us to the side gate mere steps from the lawn. The shuttle was totally awesome before and after the show!

We found Rushgrrrl and her three sons along with other families front and center on the lawn. There were at least ten kids seeing Rush for their first time and all but one of them were rocking out. Our little 'village' was certainly all ages, with about fifty years between me and the younger kids. Very cool!

The show totally kicked ass. Rush is better every time I see them. The setlist is near perfect for me, with numerous old treasures and lots of S&A. The five in a row at the top of the second set was a dream come true, and the band pulled those songs off superlatively. It was most profound.

The whole crowd was standing through the entire show. Rose and Jarrett were blown away. Jarrett always uses the word 'integrity' when he speaks of Rush. After the show he said he was now a Believer. Rose and Jarrett are both really special friends and I love them a lot. It was really great to share this great show with them and the families I was with.

A Rush concert is a beautiful thing.

***

That day was also the first preshow meetup during the tour that included people from all three of the major Rush message boards. The RushTour banner has been to all the shows along the way and the back of it is already full of signatures.
