For better or worse, Live has continuously evolved artistically throughout the course of their career. Each album has a completely different sound from it's predecessors.

The question I would like to pose to Live fans is which album transition do you feel displayed the largest artistic change, regardless of whether it was good or bad, for Live?

For me it's definately the change between TDTH and V. I can't say whether it's good or bad, only that it's 'different'. I would also say the change between Birds of Pray and SFBM is quite large. With BoP they were going for a nice easy radio rock sound, and then they took some Oestogen and brought out SFBM. tongue.gif

Really? I'd say from BOP > SFMB is the least change, it's like they just toned the guitars down a little and it could all be from the one album.

TDTH > V is a big change though, I wouldn't say for the better even though I do have a soft spot for V .. but Ed attempting to rap isn't like anything hear prior to V ... so I'm gonna go with this one too.

MJ > TC is a big change too, the intensity is increased 10 fold.

Mental Jewelry to Throwing Copper. As far as the sound of the albums, it was a transition from a slightly acoustic retro-ish sound to a ripping electric gut sound. IOW, on Mental Jewelry I often heard things remeniscent of Beatles/Yardbirds etc. Whereas Throwing Copper was hardcore contemporary alternative rock.

I put TDTH - V. V just seems so different to me. Ed's rapping, there's major keyboards going on... it's just different.

MJ to TC. From funk to post-grunge.

But damn. Anyway it is all so smooth imho. The changes. I will not vote.

That was my thinking exactly. I think TDTH to V is being picked the most because overall it was a horrible transition. If you listen to MJ and then TC, man what a difference.

To me it was close but I had to go with from DOAD to MJ.

DOAD for me is unlistenable. You're hard pressed to find any real bass or guitar work in there whatsoever. The music is pop sounding and very bad at that.

MJ starts out with PLOTR, where Pat's bass kicks more ass than in any other Live tune. Ed's voice matures here and sounds vastly different. The music takes a turn into a funky, retro rock kinda thing.

The turn from TDTH to V was also huge. I just couldn't be bothered to listen to V again to try and gain an opinion of the differences. I despise that cd plain and simple and will never play it again.

MJ to TC to me was a simple change in rock styles really. TC seems to be just an over produced version is all with slightly more anthemic themes incorporated into the music. But not so different in my opinion.

hey why is ' SFBM >> album no.8' not listed in the poll, the greatest change ever in Live's history when they change from pop-rock to the most memorable rock record ever made in music history??!

oke, well, I think i go for TDTH>V as well, although it's not their best move. But offcourse the most different. The deep spiritual Ed singing Ed with the band playing some very diverse songs to songs in which Ed is close to rap, that's a very different style.
But than again you can choose as well to start from V to BoP...I mean when BoP was released we thought: ahh oke, this sounds a lot more like Live, it sounded familiar, cause we know their other stuff. But not counting the other records, from V to > BoP it's also a real change, although it's both close to pop-rock.

I did like the keyboards on some of the stuff. The rapping, though, was a little odd.

The distance to here to V definatly. I might be the only one who actually liked V but It took time and it was soo different from the distance to here.

I didn't see it coming. shrug.gif

It's not their best work, but it's not totally unlistenable. I think "Savior For A Day" is a pretty good song and I enjoy it. thumbsup.gif

"Ball and Chain" is alright when you are in an upbeat mood and "Good Pain", which is on the MJ album, came from DOAD.
