I saw the last CC + LIVE tour. I caught it in KC and St. Louis. From what I remember they did switch it up as to who would end the show. I do know that whenever I hear "Hanging Around" by the CC I remember that tour and the fun times. During the St Louis show Ed came out on stage during the song with his glass of wine and sang with Adam D. from CC. Fun times!

HORRIBLE TIMES!!!!

I saw the tour with CC and was highly disappointed. Live was the opening act, but they shouldn't be playing when it is light out.

CC dreadlocks dude forgot the words when he started the second verse of Long December, stopped playing, told the crowd he forgot, waited about a minute while he figured it out, and then started playing again. What a TOOL! eh.gif I've seen high school bands with more talent. CC has some radio hits, but they totally suck!

Yeah, I agree. I saw a few Live/CC shows and every time CC sucked.

For the record (if there is one) i've seen Bruce Springsteen, the best live performer ever, forget not only lyrics but once i even saw him forget how to begin a song. It was hilarious - Nils had to show him the opening guitar part for a song that Bruce wrote before Nils was even IN the band. And no one said "Oh he sucks now!"

And i've seen Eddie K blow a few lyrics, too. (He scolded me for laughing at him once.)
It happens.

That said, Counting Crows is an entirely other kind of show. The energy is wholly different than Live. Musically they're incredible. i haven't seen them since JazzFest 2002 or 2003, but i enjoyed them.

Well, Ed forgets his lyrics quite frequently too. It can happen to the best, I guess wink.gif

The problem with the Counting Crows is that Adam D. sings off key and changes the words in his hit songs around enough to prevent sing-alongs and sap the crowd of any energy that they have. Forgetting lyrics happens, singing in the wrong key on purpose should not.

I think that's why a lot of people say they suck because its not the kind of show they are used to. Not every show is going to be as high energy as Live or some other bands out there but that doesn't mean the band has no talent. I agree that they are incredible musically and I have always enjoyed seeing them live and look forward to doing so again.

Bob Dylan does this. And i've noticed that alot more frequently in the last several years, Ani DiFranco does as well (i KNOW she stole it from Bobby D.)
Yes, to prevent sing alongs.
Ani (i know) and Bob (i suspect) don't really care for singing along because THEY want to sing and they'd like it alot if you just shut up and listened.
i've probably seen Ani DiFranco more than i've seen anyone (and that's saying something) and i respect that she wants to sing and i should hush.
i'm not comparing any one band or artist to any other (cause God knows Bob & Ani are the other two of my holy trinity aside from Bruce) but if they are changing the lyrics and singing something different, something NEW, what the heck is wrong with that?

Imagine if you were singing along to Iris and suddenly there was a whole new verse!! i wouldn't complain, i'd be elated!! They're artists. It's what they do. ~shrug~

And yeah, what Heather said, too.

Kyo, from my favorite band Dir en grey (the guy in my avatar, actually), does this. However Kyo is Kyo and I don't give a shit what he does, because he's that damn good.

I agree with you again Laura. I think some people have very different ideas on what makes a live show good. For me its not about bands playing all of their hits exactly the same way that they sound on the cd. I mean why bother going to see a band like that, just listen to the cd. I for one, love it when an artist adds different things to their songs by changing the tempo, as Counting Crows often will do, and by adding some different lyrics or different instruments. To me that is what a live show is for. Its a chance for artists to express themselves in a different way and its a chance for them to spontaneous and to give their fans something new and different from what they have already heard.
