We only know what Chad does, not what he's capable of. He may well be FAR better than people give him credit for.

They Stood Up For Love.

Also, for such a soft and slow song, Dance With You has some good drumming.

I have to agree with the folks who said Iris and They Stood Up For Love. I'd like also to nominate White, Discussion, I Alone, Everytime I See Your Face, Lighthouse and River Town.

But, let's be honest. As great as CG is behind the kit, it just wouldn't be the same without Pat sitting in the pocket and filling it up with his rhythms. His bass accentuates everything about CG's drumming that is great. And really, it works both ways. IMO, a song with bass and/or drum parts that have no power, leaves the song lifeless. Coldplay are a great example of that. I love some of their songs, but they have a woefully weak, IMHO, rhythm section. Their songs could have so much more impact if they had a better drummer or bass player (or both).

Anyway, a drummer and bass player have to adequately accentuate and compliment each other, and CG and PD do that awesomely.

I totally agree - I love the way Pat's basslines wind round Chad's drumming. I always think the real test of a good drummer and bassist is in a band who are a trio. Get that wrong and instead of sounding full and huge, a band can sound like it's playing in a tin can.

Anyway, Live's music would be hideous with some flashy drummer - in fact I hate pretentious, flashy drummers who think people what to hear 15 minute fucking drum solo - shut up you total egomaniacal idiot and know your place! It's as stupid and incongruous as a 15 minute bass solo would be. The most important thing with any musician within a band is that they play to compliment the other members.

There's one song which really has great drums; All Over You. Just listen to the beginning of that song and you'll know what I mean. Love it!!

All Over You is a good take. I really think the drums on Heropsychodreamer are overlooked because of the baseline. Chad does a good job on it.

Where Fishes Go has always been my fav Gracey song. It's not the most intense drum-song, but something about the rhythm of the drums that is so different than the rhythms of the other instruments ... much more so in this song than any others (imho anyway ...)

And who first brought my little Paaaatrick into this conversation!!?!?!?!! You're my new favorite person! He holds the whole thing together.

Another good one, also on TDTH, is Sparkle. Both of those songs are quite fun to play on the drums and they're both somewhat unique, especially for Gracey.

Also... just to comment on the other topic that keeps slipping in: Patrick. Every band needs a rock solid rhythm section to even be considered decent. Patrick and Gracey are definitely tops in my book. rockin.gif

White, Discussion

Just watched the Awake DVD since my fiance has never seen any of the Videos for Live. She looked over to me during WD and asked if Chad has ever been recognized for his drumming.

I'd have to say that PLOTR is very unique in some ways but I'd have to give the nod to White Discussion and top honors to Like I Do. I like the changes and the pace in Like I do.

The song fucking rocks straight out and in my opinion, is the best track LIVE has ever laid down. Can't believe it was never released as a single. It's actually beyond belief to me. It's an old school Live tune. The change and the music right in the middle where Ed sings "don't leave" is fucking bone chilling. It gets away from the simple structure of Live's recent work. The mash of guitar and fast paced drums in the last 15 seconds is utterly amazing. Like I said, the best tune this band has ever made. rockin.gif
