I remember watching MTV and seeing the video for Lightning Crashes come on. I absolutely hated it because I thought it was boring. I'd turn the channel every time it would start to come on. Months later a friend of mine let me borrow his copy of Throwing Copper and I couldn't stop listening to the album. Lightning Crashes became one of my favorite songs off the album. Then... weeks later I was watching MTV and the video for the song came on again. I was like "God, not this crap again..." I was about to turn the channel, but then I heard the music start up to the song and it stopped me in my tracks. I was like "what the fuh..."? First time I ever learned not to judge a book by its cover...

It's funny, though. My fan-based relationship with the band has always been like that. When Lakini's Juice first came out on the radio I was floored. I got so pumped waiting for the album to come out. Then, when it finally came out, I went and got it and grazed over the first three or four songs off the album (minus Lakini's Juice) and I remember getting so pissed at the band. In my mind, at the time, the rest of the album sounded like crap compared to Lakini's Juice. I felt hoodwinked. But I finally warmed up to the sound of the album and, in doing so, found subtle pleasures sprinkled throughout all of the songs.

Predictably enough, the same thing happened with The Distance To Here. It's happened with every album, with the exception of SFBM (no matter how hard I try, I just can't warm up to that album sad.gif ).

Selling the Drama was what hooked me. I bought TC, listened to it a hundred times and then went out and found MJ.

Well, I'm just trying to look on the bright side. Maybe SFBM is Live's Zooropa. Of course, then there's Pop. Maybe V can be Live's Pop so we can say they've already gotten that out of their system.

I saw Pain Lies On The Riverside on MTV, bought Mental Jewelry, and the rest is history.

I was the only rock-fan, all my friends were more into pop or hiphop, so I had to do my search for good music on my own... I had heard lakini's juice on the radio, and I liked it, so I bought secret samadhi... None of my friends understood that cd, they all found it to hard and blablabla, but I found it just awesome!

Instant love. No other band to this day has ever done that for me.

One of the truest statements I have seen on this site! I completely agree! rockin.gif

Listening to Mental Jewelry on a Sony Walkman cassette player in junior high, I was sold from the first drum beats of Pain Lies on The Riverside. Saw my first show soon after and as it is said the rest is history... Now I'm passing on the love of this band to anyone I come in contact with. As a teacher I talk about music all the time with my students and I always mention LIVE as an alternative to the crap that floods the airwaves of payola pop radio. I've had a lot of positive responses after the students hear the boys, so maybe we can tune a new generation into the music we all love.

In my case it took a few steps until I got hooked:

1. around 1995 (I was 36): saw Live's unplugged show, loved it although I'd never heard of the band before
2.1997: saw the video for Freaks on TV, liked the music a lot, bought Secret Samadhi
2. 1999: heard the Dolphin's Cry, saw an interview with Ed on TV, heard Lightning Crashes, thought the song was on Live's new album heynow.gif , bought The Distance To Here smile.gif
3. 1999: watched Live's Rockpalast show on TV, Pillar Of Davidson made me cry

Then I was hooked...

Wanted Throwing Copper for Christmas - got it. The album turned out to be one of my best Christmas presents ever smile.gif
Bought Mental Jewelry a few weeks later.
Went to my first Live show in 2000 - spread my wings there and flew...

Heard Pain lies on the Riverside in the early nineties, bought the CD and loved almost every song on it. Throwing Copper was not as good to me, but I love SBFM right now.

Second vote to BOP!!

When I heard Heaven i liked the song and bought BOP!

After that i got all the other albums lol

Live is the first band that totally hooked me, there are thousand of bands that make good music but with Live its that every song is great, not counting SFBM

I voted for SS as that was the album that really sealed my fate as a Live fan. It was TC and the I Alone video, and the WD remix that was out at the time that drew me in. Then a local DJ mentioned that MJ was amazing too. When SS came out, it's volume and difference from the 1st 2 albums hooked me for good. So it was a multi-step process, not one single song or event. (I was even living in eastern PA in the early 90s -- kicking myself for not being aware of them then!)

I'm suprised that there aren't more responses on what album got you hooked! It's not a tough question to answer.

To this point I'm not really suprised by most peoples choices after hearing the comments to support them. I think that it is absolutely no suprise that TC is the leading vote getter. Not a single SFBM or V vote yet, but BOP has pulled off two.
