"felt the sting"?...jeez...i have been called so many things i would have more money than bill gates if i had a nickel for every time...i have had people spit on me and i am a white male...it's like, whatever. sorry, but the PC thing is WAY overboard these days...nobody is turning waterhoses on people and haven't in decades. is what the dude said wrong? yes, but so what, did he physically hurt anybody, no. my mother taught me an adage a long time ago that starts, "sticks and stones..."

and sorry, while i agree the rutgers women do not deserve the remarks, they DO have a responsibility as they become role models when they step onto the court, that INCLUDES physical appearance...the college has even more responsibility as to how their players dress and present themselves.

First of all I want to start by saying I DESPISE political correctness. We've recently had a series of CHEWING GUM adverts banned here because... wait for it... a black comedian, a middle aged white lady at a women's insititue meeting and a white bloke who appreared to be at a bird club meeting (don't ask, it's a british thing) forget what they are doing and burst out talking in a Jamaican accent extolling the virtues of this particular brand of chewing gum. People in record numbers complained that it was highly racist and offensive and the usual Uncle Tom and Slave Trade analogies were bandied about in an irrelevant manner (I suspect by middle class white people). This is obviously ridiculous, though I'm not sorry to see the back of the adverts as they were just plain annoying.

However, I do think even in context, the phrase "Nappy headed hos" is just vile and coming out of an aged right wing white guy's mouth can only be construed as derogatory and racist. I think he'd have got just as much stick if he'd have been black and he'd called a team of white girls something like trailer trash barbies. As for all those rappers calling women hos - two wrongs don't really make a right and that's a whole other can of worms to open.

Should he have been sacked - who the hell cares - as of half an hour ago I didn't even know who he was! He should have stuck to the rough/tattoo comments and calling the other team cute - he'd have got the sack for sexism and both teams could have held hands on Oprah.

By the way, I hate the whiny "Why can they call one another by the 'n' word but we can't do it?" attitude. Basically, if you have to ask, you're at best extremely naive and at worst a racist bigot. I have black friends and I can't think of ONE SINGLE SCENARIO where it would be right, appropriate or even funny to call them a word like nigga. However, two black people using the word do it as a term of 'endearment' (and good for them turning it round and owning it) rather than as some kind of colonial insult.

p.s. Hi Trathena! How long have you been here my fellow VAST and Ours fan?

Hello Senghe! I've been around a few weeks and have posted about three times and all three times I've been grouchy. ;-)

So I'm glad to finally write a friendly post. And I agree with every word you said.

Peace!
Trathena

Just wait...this will really get the ball rolling. There will be no more fun on the radio anymore. So called "Shock Jocks" will be a thing of the past. Because really that's what Imus was. Just because he was on MSNBC didn't make him a political talk show host. His show has always been about comedy, and humor. He was joking in this case and everyone has been taking it out of context. Nothing he said is punishable by FCC standards. He is completely free to say what he did. It wasn't the smartest thing the guy did, but by no means should the guy be FUCKING fired for it. This country is laugable anymore with our freedoms. We don't have many left. This is not a racist issue its a fucking freedom of speech issue, and anyone making it out to be anymore is an idiot. I guarentee you most black people don't even really care about Imus or what he said. But some will try to use this as power against someone who is basically an old white guy. There really is a complete double standard in today's society. You can't say "we can say those words, but you can't", thats not the country I wanna be part of. It's bull shit. Look up the things that Sharpton has said in the past. Look up Tawana Brawley on google, and tell me this guy isn't just a race baitor. Look up how Rev. Jesse Jackson called NYC Hymietown, this guys are no better. They really need to shut the fuck up! The only ones that really should be offended and they have every right to be are the girls on the Rutgers basketball team and their families.

Thank god for Satellite Radio. But I'm sure we will have people going after the shock jocks there too, before too long.
