Thanks to Livefornorway for this poll! I voted Mystery because Ed seems happiest to me when he sings it. Not sure if thats a good reason but still smile.gif

The River since it was the only single and they seem to keep singles in the setlists more than songs that weren't singles.

I went for The River.
Maybe Mystery and Show can make it too. Looks like my fave from SFTBM, Love Shines don't make it no.gif
I think The River, Mystery, Show, Wings, Sofia and Love Shines are songs they can put in the future sets list now and then, and I would love to hear Night of Nights live-

If it had to be any .. I'd hope it's none of those and one that was not performed on the actual SFBM tour, it would at least give the band some credibility that the rest of the album wasn't filler to them and is worth performing to the audience.

Just on the subject of setlists though .. Live seems to keep very little songs from recent albums in favour of always keep the old faithfuls from older albums (mostly TC) in the setlist .. do people see this as an admission that they think these songs are better? Sure they are the biggest hits and the ones the casual fans want to see .. but why cater to the casual fan? I mean if I were a muso and I know a lot of other artists perform the songs they really want to play, I find it hard to believe that Live really want to play those same songs over and over from so long ago and if they do .. then like I say, is that an admission their old stuff is better?

I think its a matter of them being too lazy to switch up their setlists. They don't even remember how to play half of their songs and don't seem to want to make the effort to do so. They just aren't one of those bands that cater to their loyal fans by playing more obscure songs and by switching up their setlists from night to night in order to keep a loyal following. I think they do cater to casual fans because they keep those songs in the setlist that always get the most reaction from the majority of the crowd which I'm assuming are casual fans. They know that casual fans don't want to hear anything new that they haven't heard a million times on the radio, they want to hear the hits. I would think that would get boring for them but if it bothered them that much wouldn't they have done something about it by now? It certainly got boring for me after 26 shows.

i voted for Mystery, but the song that i want to hear in a set list is Home!!!

i don't know why, but the first time that i hear the album, i don't know, that song is the best of SFBM, for me...

but mystery is catchy and i want to hear it in the case that i go to see them this year...

Why should they learn new songs from an album most concert goers won't have. That wouldn't make any sense at all.

Live playing their hits isn't an admission that their old songs are better. They are going to play the songs that get the most reaction from the crowd. Mirror Song is the oldest song the band currently plays and it usually gets the least reaction from the audience. Rattlesnake gets a decent reaction from loyalists but the vaste majority in the crowd don't really know what to make of it. The hits are what gets the crowd into a show. That is why Live always plays a large selection from Throwing Copper at their shows. The majority of fans have that album and when the crowd hears a song it knows, they always pop for it.

Heaven has become a staple in concert because it got serious airplay. Live tends not to play non-hit songs from newer albums to make room for their older hits. Its not an admission of their older songs being better than the newer ones. Its all about giving the fans the hits that they want.

Wern't you always the one going on about Live getting more exposure of new material .. shouldn't Live, if they are completely confident and happy with their new stuff really push it at new shows .. fuck it if half the audience haven't got the CD .. make them listen to it and get them into it.

I know about the whole reaction thing, but why play to get a bigger reaction. I mean of course there would have to be a couple of big hits each show like LC, I Alone, Lakini's Juice and maybe Dolphins .. but then why not push the new album heavily by putting 7-8 songs from it on the setlist, play the entire album over the course of the tour and then shuffle the rest of the list around. The fact that heaps of songs from BOP or SFBM never even saw the light of day in concert doesn't make sense if the band is proud of the new stuff.

I agree with Eamon in this one. If an artist is really having fun or supporting the song he's playing the audience will go along in that energy. Especially with a new album most bands play the songs they love most themselves of the album, or the ones with the most hitpotential. Either way the audience will benefit from hearig new songs. Worst case scenario is that one of em thinks...hell yeah.. great song.. I am gonna buy that whole album!!! In which case the band (hopefully) gains a new fan.

And if a setlists includes 7 hits from a band... and the rest is addition... I like those. Fun way to learn new songs by bands. And the audience can sing along the hits. Everyone happy.

It's all about giving the casual fans what they want. How many people here would rather hear Mirror Song than All Over You for the one millionth time?
