The performance was an amazing oppertunity to acquire a new generation of fans, and to up the commercial success of the band.

The performance did nothing for them. Was it the choice of song, do you think? I mean, if you could pick any song from any album for them to use and try and gain the new fans, which would you pick? Even limited to just songs off SFBM, I think I'd opt for a different track than Mystery.

So let's say, firstly which track would you pick from SFBM, and then which song if you could have one off any album?

I think Mystery was a great choice it worked as a duet. But when the record company can't make anything out of it, I think it would be the same witch song from SFTBM they had picked, nothing different would have happend.
Maybe Run to the wather or Where fishes go would be a nice choice, but I think it was right to choose a track from SFTBM.

I agree Mystery was the right choice, but as soon as there was no mention of Live having a new album on the show, I knew there was trouble. American Idol plugged Meatloaf's album on the same show but since Epic didn't spring for the plug for Songs from Black Mountain, 50 million people had no idea the band had a new album out.

The major problem with the whole fiasco was Epic moved the release date from May 9th, which was would have coincided with a major city US tour, to June 13th and then June 6th well after the tour concluded. They also bumped Live to Red Ink/Epic which didn't have the money to promote Mystery or Live's new album. If things were done correctly, Live and Epic could have benefited greatly from the performance, however it all fell flat.

Can anyone tell me why a label would spend money recording a Live/Chris Daughtry version of Mystery(which would have been a huge hit), when it never saw the light of day? If the song wasn't going to be released wouldn't have made more sense spending the money on promoting the band's new album? Epic just screwed the band and I hope Live is one of a few bands that the label doesn't kill off.

Right Choice, Wrong Lable, Horrible Promotion.

That's who Chris wanted to sing with. They could have negotiated for more pub before they signed.

They should have also worked out a deal to appear on each other's albums since American Idol shit is like gold right now to mainstreem music.

That would have been a brilliant idea. Chris would have went for it without a doubt. They needed you over at Epic. smile.gif

This is a great topic by the way.
