Hi Everybody!

No matter what other people think of it, but....
I LOVE "RUN TO THE WATER"!
And I'm serious.

To me, Run to the Water is immensely overrated. It's probably my least favorite track from the first four albums. I've really never liked it.

Tabucky:

Just curious. Other than its fairly standard structure, what is it, technically, that you dislike about the song?

Overrated? Yeah, I think a little. But it's certainly an emotionally-powerful song in my opinion. I'd take RTTW any day over We Walk in Dream (yawn).

I'm going to have to disagree on this one. Not on the RTTW part, though. I like that song as well. But, We Walk in the Dream, in my opinion is one of the most underrated Live songs. Its so amazing and powerful!

The guitar work is so simple, yet so powerful/emotional on that track. Its such a "Live" tune because of the "less is more" approach to the guitar work. Its catchy, yet unique and has many layers. Awesome song!

I'll agree with you too. We Walk in the Dream didn't click with me at first, but now I love it.

And that's one of the reasons I dislike Run to the Water. Unlike We Walk in the Dream, RTTW sucked to me at first, and hasn't gotten any better. That's the subjective part.

Also, as you said, it's a really, REALLY simple and uncreative upbeat pop song. I would mistake it for coming out of some boring pop-alternative band (possibly such as Vertical Horizon, a band that does absolutely nothing for me and embodies the lack of creativity in popular music these days) if I didn't know it was Live. I think it actually points in the direction Live would later take. That's not to say that anything from BOP, for example, sounds like RTTW. Much of BOP, if not most of BOP, sounds worse and different. But yeah, the lyrics are okay I guess, but I can't find anything at all about RTTW that makes it the standout song to Live fans that it is.

I couldn't agree more. I couldn't! The bridge to WWitD is so powerful; you could just fall into it.

Run to the Water is one of my favorite songs,

While I was going through a terrible divorce- right after the cd came out , I would often sing in my head- " run to the water and find me there, burnt to the core but NOT broken"

And thats what I was burnt to the core- but NOT broken. you might laugh at that but it helped me through a difficult time

Ed sings with such emotion and thats what I will always love about +Live+

Dude thats exactly what any other normal person would of done. Im 21 and havent been through a divorce but still relate those lyrics to something along those lines. How powerful it must be for you to hear those words, i know it is for me, well done thumbsup.gif It s like going through the worst pain in the world, and fucking beating it, acknowledging that you are better then anything that can get you down.
