Lately I have been getting into a few new artists by checking them out first on youtube. The great thing about that site is that you don't have to download anything or register -- just click on a link and you're there in a few seconds. Videos load immediately, and again, since there is no downloading involved, you don't have to waste time/space getting the file onto your computer.

Anyway, I thought it would be cool to start a thread where we can recommend artists to each other and provide a link via youtube. Hopefully it will help at least a few of us discover new music and/or broaden our tastes.

I'll start off with a video of David Gray performing perhaps the greatest love song of the past decade -- it's a slower, piano- and orchestra-backed song, so it might not be for everybody. Enjoy, and feel free to add to the thread!

AWESOME idea!!!!!

I love this guy, Hamell on Trial. I fucking LOVE him. LOVE HIM LOVE HIM LOVE HIM!!!!!!!
Hamell on Trial

oooooo here's a better one. Such a great song about his guitar.
more Hamell

It's just him on stage. With his 1937 Gibson acoustic and amp. It's tuned down to D. He uses 13s. *goosebumps* I seriously love him. His shows are the best. He'll stop in the middle of a song, tell the most dirty joke you've ever heard in your life, then start playing again while you die from laughter.

Thank you Janice! Would you believe I have never seen that before either?! I remember signing up for Myspace just so I could remember to watch it on his myspage page and it took me so long to get high speed internet that I totally forgot about it! What a treat. I LOVE that song.

EdStipe - that is my favourite David Gray song. It so heartwrenchingly sad.

Jimmy Gnecco - one of the finest vocalists on the planet:

And I don't care if nobody else here gets them - I fucking LOVE this band so shut up, I'm indulging myself:
InMe (as usual for live stuff on YouTube, crap recording on somebody's mobile phone - no way does it do them justice) - Here's Hoping
Dave doing one of his solo acoustic songs - Glass White Flag
Guaranteed to make every Radiohead fan's blood boil - Creep

Funniest thing I ever heard said about this vid...
"Oooh - I didn't know Tom Cruise could sing!"
Made me laugh, anyway.

Halestorm - The Hand my favorite band! they are from the York, PA area and got signed to Atlantic Records about a year and a half ago. currently working on their full-length album but they have a 5 song live EP out right now and have toured all over the country with Shinedown, Seether, Silvertide and others.

The Clarks - Shimmy Low just saw these guys friday night in Towson, MD and they put on a great live show!

Rocco Deluca and the Burden - Swing Low saw this guy in Baltimore last year (i think it was last year) and was very impressed by a few songs in particular, including Swing Low. VH1 has showed a documentary several times that follows Rocco and the band on tour around Europe.

Danielia Cotton - Back In Black (cover) this girl opened for The Clarks the other night and she can sing! there's just something about a girl fronting a rock band! before they played Back In Black, she said something like "now you can say that you've seen a Puerto Rican black chick with dreads doing this song"! i bought her cd and it's good but it doesn't do her justice after seeing her perform live. i definitely want to see her again!

whoa baby! if they were american, that never would have been aired on tv. those kids looks like they're 14 years old! did the band have any negative press or anything when this video came out?
