Yeah, I'm a bit worried about the very real likelihood of 100+ degree temperatures with very little shade and criminally expensive water. I have heard many stories of people passing out from heat exhaustion and/or dehydration because of the sun.

To make matters worse, I just learned that the organizers do not allow people to bring their own water into the festival. What kind of bullfuckingshit is that?

I dunno what 100*F is in celsius, but I can tell you that at Big Day Out on Friday, temperature reached about 40 degrees celsius.

Needless to say, I got sunburnt (not too bad though. thank you, sunscreen).

But, they did allow people to bring in sealed bottles of water - not that they checked that they were sealed or not, but. It's to try and prevent people smuggling in alcohol.

I'd try and take my own water to the thing anyway. If it gets ditched, you tried. Doesn't matter.

At BDO, they had a shitload of water in front of all the stages and security were constantly giving people water, and had hoses out and were spraying the crowd.

They also gave out free water bottles and had taps here and there to fill them up. They gave out free bottles of water on the way out too.

There were SO MANY people I saw get taken out of the mosh pits, and I was only down in amongst it for about 5 or 6 hours out of the entire day. Generally the crowd were good towards each other and would pass back the water, so it could have been a lot worse than it was.

Hopefully they do something similar for that thing you're talking about.

40 degrees celsius is approximately 100 degrees farenheit.

Oh snap.

Well they would have to give you water and shit, or they'd have massive lawsuits on their hands, right? Maybe?
Pretty fucking irresponsible if they want to let everyone sit in the sun for a festival on 40 degree days without a means of hydration.

That's what I thought, but according to previous festival-goers, the organizers are pretty fucking intent on not allowing ANY water to be brought into the venue, and instead forcing people to shell out massive amounts of money for their $8 water bottles.

It's going to take someone dieing of dehydration or heat exhaustion for them to change that, I think. It hasn't happened yet, and I hope it doesn't happen this year.

Oh well, I keep on thinking it will be worth it for the hours of great music I will be seeing...

Nah. I'd honestly regret it for the rest of my life if this were to be Rage Against the Machine's final show, and I were to have tickets and then get rid of them.

The last time they were in Southern California (before they disbanded) I almost went, but couldn't really afford it, so I told myself I'd just go the next time. Obviously that didn't work out very well, and I don't want to make that mistake again.

Besides, everyone I have known who has gone to Coachella has said that it is awesome in spite of the heat.

Thanks for the fatherly advice, though.

Awesome. What album did they play the most material from? I'm thinking of going to one of their shows next month and am wondering about what kind of stuff they'll play.

There were about 4 from In the Absence of Truth, and a couple each from Panopticon and Oceanic. Can't remember the setlist exactly, and I'm terrible with their song titles, but it was a wicked gig. Was right up front, pretty intense mosh-pit. Met the band after, got CDs signed. Also got a t-shirt and took down one of the tour posters outside to take home. smile.gif
