I just rediscovered Live and found that there are, in fact, MORE cds than TC. I got SS for free and I had the choice of buying TDTH, V, or SFBM. I chose SFBM because it was the newest and I sort of enjoyed hearing the song on the Live site. Since then I've explored this site and heard talk of songs like White Discussion and I heard many people say TDTH is the best album. I have never heard any songs from any albums I didn't list. I think it is time I heard them.

I'm asking for yalls opinion... Of all the Live albums out there, which should I buy first?

My Favourite type of Live songs are songs that sound angry like "I alone" or HeroPsychoDreamer" SFBM was probably not the best choice but like most of you I have learned to love "Wings" and "Mystery" It's almost like every album is a new album to me because I've never heard them lol.gif

Out of TDTH and V, if you want angry get V. TDTH is my favorite album. Alas, if you like SFBM, you should just get them all.

Mental Jewelry.

Agreed. No Live collection is complete without their first, and possibly best, work.

Be prepared for a big difference in, umm, intelligence, between SFBM and Mental Jewelry. MJ is heavy on political/social/religious commentary -- SFBM not so much.

With TC en SS in your collection, I have to say that you already had Live's most angry albums I guess. The rest is less angry, but - just like someone said before - if you like SFBM there will def. be no album of Live you won't like. V is also angry but in a more modern, poppy and rock-rap way smile.gif but also fun. MJ is more raw and at several points very angry too.
Btw, there are also several b-sides that show Live's angry side (for example search for Don't Wait and Vine Street !).
All with all I would recomend you TDTH (my opinion, though), cause it's after TC their best and also has some angry elements on it (Voodoo Lady, Where Fishes go (a bit)) combined with their bright music.

Btw: why hadn't you the choice to buy Birds of Pray? Also a good album to listen after SFBM cool.gif and you 'heard talk of songs like White Discussion' on this site...that one is at TC eyebrow.gif, you already have that one, last song (not counting Horse lol.gif )

So you already have TC, SS and SFBM?

I'd recommend buying TDTH next, then BOP, then MJ, then V. You're probably going to find stuff on each that you love, but I'd say TDTH is definitely an essential as to me it ws the last Live album I could listen to from start to finish.

I also think you should start with Mental Jewelry. It is in my opinion some of Live's best work. Raw, emotional and real. TDTH would be a good choice after that. It's not as angry as TC or SS and it may not hit you right away but to me it is a work of art.

Birds of Pray and SFBM really don't measure up in my opinion. V is very different for them which is good but I don't think it represents what is really great about the band. MJ, TC, SS and TDTH do that.

Well, if you already have SS and TC, I say you have to have The Distance to Here also, to have the perfect collection! But like Todd said, if you like SFBM, you'll love them all!

I like all of Live's albums so I'm no help. The Distance to Here is probably my overall favorite though. However it is very mellow compared to Throwing Copper. Birds of Pray isn't angry but it has some good rocking songs on it. V also has some great songs, Simple Creed is one of Live's best rock songs in my opinion and that leads off the album. Mental Jewelery has a great first but the second half of the album lags for me bigtime.

Hope that somewhat helps smile.gif

If you have TC and SS I would recommend buying The Distance To Here. That would complete your collection of their top three albums.

You didn't mention BOP, I would look for that before V. To be really honest with you V really sucks except for one or two songs.

MJ, of course, is a Live classic but it does have the sound of a young band right out of high school rather than a group of professional musicians. It does, however, contain some of their best work.
