Were getting ready to do preliminary designs for a new design and overhaul of fansoflive.

Just got new software installed and before I do anything I'd like everyone to seriously think about what they want to see from us here at fansoflive.com.

Is there anything you dont like? anything you would like to see added? anything youd like to see changed? brandedwendy I'd like to hear your thoughts on this since youve been a moderator for awhile.

think about it and post here, i'm interested in any and all ideas, even if you think its something small, i'm interested in hearing what it is. give us some feedback, this site is all about you guys.

One major thing i need to know is how fast does this site load for everyone? i'm noticing 2 or 3 people at this site at the same time it slows to a crawl. and that is the host, Nick if its this bad for everyone were going to have to look into changing the host. The downloads (the songs i posted tonight the 4 different versions of they stood up for love) are on a different server, another one i own and they should be fine, but the actual site fansoflive.com and this forum seem very slow.

let me know

thanks

Speed has never been a problem for me. Where is the server located?

I have a recommendation that may or may not be realistic. It would be great to have a place on the site where individual users can upload Live-related bootlegs, rarities, pictures, etc. The only way to post that kind of stuff now is by going through an outside-source such as yousendit or megaupload, and those sites tend to be problematic for certain users, as well as having expiring files and other annoying restrictions.

I know that would require lots of server space, and I don't know how much you actually have, hence the "may or may not be realistic" comment. Obviously, such an addition would have to come with rules, such as a per-user upload limit and, possibly, a moderator to approve any upload before it gets posted...but it is a nice idea that I haven't seen on very many fan forums.

Yeah, a multimedia section and forum would be great. There could also be a non-Live section included, but kept to a small size.

One thing that MUST be carried over into the new site and design is ALL of the contents of the Old Board and this new one, too. I will be heartbroken if the Old Board is lost. As long as all the stuff from the message board is kept, I'll be pretty happy. Also definitely keep all of the tour archives (dates, reviews, setlists) from the past 17 years.

A working chatroom would be cool, too, perhaps.

The hard drive space isnt a problem, hell I could set a spare machine up at my house using an extra ip and plug a 500 gig hard drive into it. wouldnt be the fastest thing but for just downloads it would be fine. the problem switching to a new host is the bandwidth usage, how many visitors this sites gets per month, thats one of the main reasons its on its current host, unlimited bandwidth.

if we went with a faster host we could be charged say .35 cents for every visitor after say visitor 10000, so the key is to find a fast host provider with unlimited bandwidth.

great idea tho edstipe i really like it, thanks for the feedback

one of the things were working on is getting the license for this forum software, even updating this current software. so keeping all the forum entrys shouldnt be a problem, trust me i'll do my best to keep all the posts from the old forum and this one.

thanks guys for the comments keep them coming.

Nick and I will do our best in continuing Dans legacy in making this the BEST live website on the internet.

That would be nice, specially since I had a pc break down, and lost all my Live files angry.gif sad.gif bomb.gif

I definitely like the chatroom idea... I think that'd be badass.

I'd also like to see the amount of PM's you can hold be a little bit higher, if possible.

How about a MySpace-esque "online" icon next to the users name so you can see who and who isn't online while reading posts? Oh crap! I never noticed that there is one, but it's ON or OFF. Could that icon possibly be a bit more noticeable? That's really damned picky though.

Also, is there any way the TSUFL mp3's can be added to the MP3's page? I noticed your post about you adding them, so I went straight to the MP3 section and there's nothing there. smile.gif

Thanks! Good luck with the site! smile.gif

Nick knows some of my ideas already. I'm just waiting for that nut to get back from Florida. (Hopefully the storm didn't intrude on his *alone*time* with Mickey Mouse.)

The storm did not, sorry to disappoint you, however I did get rained on heavily at the Animal Kingdom if that makes you feel any better. Greg this topic was a great idea. If anyone has any ideas for the improvement of this site send them along. We promise to read and discuss the feasibility of each idea. However if we don't take an idea, don't hate us too much tongue.gif

About adding things to the main page, Dan has not transferred all the info over to us yet. Greg is also trying to figure out the server and how to post info to the main page, once we can, it will. Until then just keep checking the message board.

Chat room does sound kick butt though!

hey everything is figured out, my problem right now is this site is so darn slow. I go to upload something and it just sits there and times out, plus still waiting on info from dan.

We gotta get this site up to par speed wise, I cant even do a backup of the entire site without my html/ftp client timing out. angry.gif

You will discuss every idea.
Well Nick... I would like to see a download section at the new site in which all the unreleased b-sides and rarities etc Dan had (and we haven't) would be placed. Great idea, isn't it?? cool.gif

Just jokin'!
I think the site as Dan left 'm was quite good and has several great xtras (such as the tabs, all the pics and the tour archive that goes back to years ago).
Any ideas would maybe a section with reviews of their albums written by fans, (fans around here can write and add them if they want to). Another idea is (along with the idea earlier said) posting also videos at the site, instead of only audio. The only thing I also really miss is a good discography where you can check all their albums, singles, how much they sold, maybe how good the songs did it in the Charts, their the release dates etc. I know that would be a lot of work, but it would complete the site.
Ohw, and the tv-section would be great if it was updated often. Fans like to see if their band is coming somewhere or do an interview at tv or etc, although I often know it by means of the forum, but still I think it's a great feature when you talk about a FANsite.

Well that were just a few thoughts of mine, maybe you can't do anything with it, but I just though I should share it.

Great work as new webmasters so far Greg and Nick!!
