Conversely, there are performers who are notoriously against taping and trading (Bob Dylan and Live, to name only two). You may not use the etree.org mailing lists to discuss such artists. Solicitations to exchange music by these artists are prohibited and will not be tolerated.

Is this true? I never knew that.

Back last summer, when they were in Montreal, i saw a couple of girls being arrested and their camera confiscated for taking pictures of Live and Jeff Martin.

There are certain bands who prefer you don't, but don't care if you do anyway.

I wonder if that's more the venue policy than the band themselves. I took a shitload of photos of Live and I was right on the front row - I was so close Ed could have reached over and snatched the camera off me and I was about 18 inches away from the security's faces. Nobody said a dicky bird and I got some great photos.

I thought it was pretty well known that Live doesn't want people exchanging bootlegs. That's why it was never allowed to be discussed on the FOL board. Personally I like when a band encourages it but I can understand why they wouldn't.

As far as cameras go that is usually the venue's policy. Live has never seemed to mind having their pictures taken as long as the venue security doesn't bitch at you for it. That has never really made much sense to me, why should the venue care if the artist doesn't?

I get the impression that it's more the record label and management that are against the recording/trading of shows rather than the band disallowing it.

But the record label calls the shots and if they believe that the trading of concerts will reduce their profit then there's nothing we can do about it (except stealth record - lol).

I think you're probably right about that. I wonder if their policy has changed since they changed record companies? Sounds like another good reason to go Indie to me.

I remember being told something in the lines of that the reason why it's not allowed on FOL is because they (FOL) don't feel that the official site of the band is the place to discuss those things

I think the boys don't mind as long as you don't blind them with Flash's. I've determined that's the reason they all wear shades when they first come out on Stage. They don't wanna be blinded by all the camera flashes going off.

I agree with you there. I know Adam used to have a real problem with all the flashes going off when he first started doing his solo shows. It does have to be really distracting and annoying after awhile.
