Bad idea.

I've heard.

But the panhandle (near Wheeling) is supposed to be pretty nice, and that's where one of the places I'm considering going to is. Have you been there?

I'm here as au pair...didn't exactly get to choose where I wanted to go, but this isn't the worst place to be...hopefully:/ I just don't know anyone yet so it's a bit boring to spend all of my free time alone, so I guess I'll just spend all my days reading this message board-which isn't that bad by the way, since I love live so much:)

Well, it can get pretty addicting (even when there isn't any Live news at all), so don't worry about all that free time! smile.gif

Welcome aboard! hi.gif

I did pass through Wheeling once, and it actually looked like a pretty cool town. But it's still hella far away from anywhere with anything actually happening. Especially with you being from NYC, it would seem like hell to you.

Come to California.

Yeah, I'm a faggot for pointing out your stupidity now, am I? I'm somehow gay because of it. How mature of you. Although I see no correlation between the two things.

And clearly someone does care where I'm from...the starter of this topic was specifically asking where people on this board are from...and clearly a certain MrMcPheezy cares, too...sorry you just can't pick up on things like this, it's really a shame. Get a brain.

Come to California.

That's pretty cool. Well one of my main goals by moving out of the city is to truly "get away from it all," so to speak. I really just want to live as far away from city life as possible for four years. I think it would be a good experience for me. I want to be somewhat close to a city, so I can still be able to travel there once in a while, and Pittsburgh is really close to Wheeling (less than an hour away), so that would be pretty cool. But mainly I like the idea of getting away from city life.

And no, I am not coming to California for college. I was considering applying to University of Redlands last year, but I've decided that California and I would not be a great match, lol. East Coast or Colorado, I say.

Well, you know yourself better than I do (obviously), but from my experience, I think this is a bad idea. It might seem like it would be an interesting experience, but actually, it'll be more boring/frustrating than anything else. I mean, there's always the chance of it working out well and you learning a lot about yourself from the experience...but I wouldn't recommend it. Getting away from it all makes sense, but shit man, you don't have to to fucking WV to do that. There are plenty of better areas that fall in that space between rural and suburban that you'd probably be better off in.

That's true. However, I have stayed in rural areas in the past for a decent amount of time (in Colorado a few times and for a month once in very rural Wyoming). I may get sick of a purely rural setting, but if I'm close to a city, then it wouldn't be as bad. You've got a good point though. I probably need a good balance between suburban and rural (which several places I'm applying to have, too). Particularly New Hampshire, Maryland, and Virginia. Anyway, if I don't like a place, there's always the option of transferring, which has become really easy these days, even after the first year.

I'd also like to be close to outdoors opportunities like hiking, backpacking, and skiing, which is another reason why a city wouldn't work well. Usually there isn't a problem finding it near medium-sized towns away from cities, though.

Personally, I find California a perfect match for me at the moment. Everything seems to be very close by. Winter time: My friends and I jam in the car for a 3 hour drive to Lake Tahoe to ski (well not too much right now as the prices sky rocketed...fucking rip-off) and I go to college and work on the week days. Summer time: a 30 minute drive to the beach and then there's Lake Tahoe where I hike up to the waterfall (Beautiful and peaceful). Anyways, a perfect balance since I can't stand to be in the city or rustic country too long.

Buy you know what you are doing though and CA is a far ways away from New York.

I care about the topic starter this time because she is not you. You are an ignoramus who created at least 20 threads within a two-week timespan...why the fuck should anyone care about that kind of thing? You are not worth taking seriously due to your extreme lack of intelligence and your attitude that you have never done anything wrong. I'm sure people can agree with me here. And you've never properly addressed or successfully rebutted anything me or McPheezy have said, so you really just show yourself to be a moron. Your posts deserve to be attacked, and that's a fact. You fail.

Yeah, that seems pretty cool. The things I've always been turned off by about California, though, is the people, the weather, and the culture. Not so much the people as the culture, actually. I also like having at least some cold months with possibly snow...I like the cold a lot. I usually sleep with my window open at night during the winter, and the thermometer in my room goes down to 40 degrees, lol. I like hot or warm weather, but only when it's summer. I've always wanted to visit Lake Tahoe, though (summer or winter). I've heard really nice things about it, so maybe I'll do a road-trip across the country one summer and check it out. But overall, I guess it's just all about personal preferences.

im in hampton va. for those going where???? im near norfolk and va beach. hampton is where the bridge tunnel into norfolk starts.
in hampton we celebrate being the oldest cont. english speaking city in the us (jamestown sunk), that we burn the damn city down every time someone comes in to fight with us (the english and the north), crabbing and fishing, the mounting of blackbeards head on a stake in our inlet (blackbeardscrew.org), the history of flight, the first air force fighter wing, hampton university, bass pro outdoor world shops, and the need to build over every inch of grass that still is growing it seems. oh and hampton high crabber football.
