I know you would reply to someone with hostility if they said something like that. Basically "reply to my post".

I just find it interesting that so many people here can disagree with me so strongly, and yet few of them are willing to make more than a post or two attempting to explain why. So much emotion, so little logic.

I've had my say. I have nothing more to add. It would be ridiculous of me to continue discussing Live's creativity with someone who's so adamant that they're the worst band ever and who write the most boring stuff ever. I really doubt I'm gonna change your mind on any of Live's music. I must admit I'm a little perplexed why someone would frequent a message board (and have over 1000 posts, and presumably much much more tongue.gif ) of a band they so thoroughly disrespect. Even more perplexing is that they flood the Live Central forum, in a thread devoted to people who like a certain song. To say a band who's sold over 20 million albums worldwide and has sold out thousands of concerts over their career doesn't put forth any effort is nothing short of insane! Next topic!

I actually agree with you for the most part. But since when is a lot of emotion a result of logic? They certainly do not go hand-and-hand and are certainly not mutually exclusive.

You're such a tool. Wait thats ironic, your favorite band is tool.

Forgive me, I don't really see any posts from you here where you express any real point of view. Please show me where these posts are that you have nothing more to add to.

Who ever said either of those things?

And this is part of the problem. You shouldn't be attempting to "change my mind", you should simply be attempting to provide some sort of foundation for your point of view. When you do so, I'll be able to weigh its merit against that of my current point of view and determine which one I feel is best.

This isn't about changing anyone's mind, it's about openly discussing our thoughts and being able to back up our opinions with something more than just parading the supremecy of subjectivism.

To say that a band that is successful must inherently be putting large amounts of artistic effort into their work is just as (if not more) insane.

Maybe you should listen to your own words. You have stated your point of view and have said your part. Quit trying to change the mind of others and just agree to disagree.

You have proved yourself to be a hypocritical in this instance. You don't like The River, but your not going to change someone's mind that does, regardless of how much you type on the subject and how many people you quote.

A good song is in the eye of the beholder, not your opinion. That is exactly what you keep feeding this thread, your opinion. Again, as you said exactly:

So please, stop attempting to do so.

Agreeing to disagree is for people that are incapable of backing up their views with anything rational.

A hypocritical?

My point has never been to change anyone's opinion. The issues we're discussing are not subjective, they are objective. So, my intent is not to change your opinion, but to get you to explain what basis you feel you have for it, to get you to question it, to understand it better so that I can weigh it against my own. I don't give a fuck what your opinion is, I just want it to have some sort of foundation, and I'd like you to understand it well enough to explain it to others.

Wow this was all a bit sad.

I tend to agree with mcpheezy that the song really is not anything creative. That being said, when performed live the song takes on a much greater existence to me. This is true of all of the songs from SFBM that I've seen them play. Prime example for me is Wings during the last AC show. It was my 4th time seeing the song live, but this one gave me chills. I don't even like the song but the way ed sang (especially at the end, he was shaking) and taylor rocked out, I have to admit it was awesome. Regardless, they still are not good songs and it's an album that disappoints me every time I attempt to give it a chance again.

HOWEVER

The hostility used when talking about this song is unecessary and I think should be unacceptable. Attack the song all you'd like, but leave the people on the other side out of it. They hear a song they like, isn't that the whole purpose of music? I don't get that same feeling from the River, but if they do than great for them.

There are numerous people around this board that I would consider live "scholars" or that I would respect their opinion about a song more than someone else. Mcpheezy, stop being a clown and play that role.

Once again you talk of backing up your point of view whilst just shitting on people who you dont agree with. Well heres my $5 worth.

The river and the whole album SFBM was quoted as being more feminine. Thus there will not be anything of the old school +LIVE+ that you tools so crave. The song the River is sensual and loving like most women. If you want to look at it from an artistic level then here you go.

Its hard to write angry heavy driving grunge songs when you have more happiness than you need brought on by the fact that you job is making music, you have a beautiful partner and family and you focus on them and not the shit thats driving the world.

I mean they may not be as loud as they used to be but at least they didnt sell out like the RHCP writting top 40 pop hits for 15 year olds just so they can continue to rake in a Shit load off money.

If you dont likie it dont listen to there new stuff. but stop coming on here ragging on +LIVE+ an their fans who actually like their new stuff. Dont buy the albums just rip them illegally of the net so you can delete it if YOU[u] thing its crap. It was fine to disagree on wether the album was good when it can out but now its just getting old.

I like the new stuff from +LIVE+ itb gives depth to their musical style, If I want nothing but power cords and running guitar riffs and Shreading guitar solos I've got the back catalogue of Iron Maiden and a shit tin full of punk, new wave, no-wave and NY noise!

And if that fails there is always GUITAR WOLF
