QUOTE(J.Sax @ Dec 15 2006, 1:00 am) *

I have a Top 6. Can't be avoided!
  1. LIVE
  2. Collective Soul
  3. Better Than Ezra
  4. Gin Blossoms
  5. Toad the Wet Sprocket
  6. Dishwalla
Dishwalla used to sit at #4, but after watching concert footage on YouTube and seeing how boring their stage presence is...I knocked them down quite a bit.

J. Sax, I saw Dishwalla open for Lifehouse in 2002 and to my recollection, they weren't bad at all. I've seen a lot of concerts since then, but I thought they were enjoyable enough and played their hit song very well. You usually can't get the feel for a live performance by watching it on a computer or television, however since Dishwalla is about done that they may be the best you get.

That's an awesome top 5. Thanks to you, I have discovered and have been enjoying three of those artists (Tool, NIN, and Patton), although I had owned Aenima previously but never really listened to it much. And you recommended Passions to me, which is superb, too.

What Patton are you in to?

I used to be mega obssessed with Patton. I still really like him, though some of his more recent stuff hasn't been particularly groundbreaking.

Well, all I have is California (Mr. Bungle), but it's absolutely great. Not sure what else of his I should check out, any suggestions? Anything sound in the least like California?

No, California is my favourite album he's ever been involved with. In my top 10 albums ever for sure. Nothing else he's done sounds anything like it- but you should definitely check out Secret Cheifs 3's album 'Book of Horizons'. It's Trey Spruance(guitarist from Mr B, played guitars on FNM's King for a day)'s band. They're great, and it bears some similarites to California. Same amazing production.

Have you listened to Mike Patton's EP with Dillinger Escape Plan? I think it's amazing.. but it's certainly not for everyone. They're not nearly as good without him..

Hmm, no, I haven't heard either of those two. I'll definitely check them out. I'm afraid I've maxed out on my quota for Christmas CD's though, so I might not get to any of those for a while, but maybe I'll download them or preview them.

Are you into Floyd bootlegs? There are some incredible ones out there, I own a lot and would be happy to share with you if you want. Also, have you heard the new Blackfield album yet? It just leaked a couple of days ago...I'm thinking about downloading it. It depends on when they tour the US. I'll only download it if the album won't be out for more than a month before they come here, but I would still buy it.

And I recently bought Gretchyn Goes to Nebraska by King's X at a Tower Records that had it for 70% off. I'll tell you what I think of it once I listen to it.

Yeah definitely check out those two.

I've only heard a couple of PF bootlegs at a mates house... I'd definitely be keen to hear more though, cheers! I'll PM you about it. I haven't downloaded the Blackfield album... I think I'm gonna wait, cuz it was great hearing it the first one without knowing what it was going to sound like at all. I heard that song that previewed on their site ages ago though (can't remember what it was called). I liked it, but not as much as the stuff I really liked on the first cd.

Have you listened to any more Pain of Salvation yet?

Yeah, Once, the song was called. Don't worry, I think that's not only the most upbeat song on the album but also the only one that really sounds the way it does. I'm actually even more excited for new Blackfield than I am for new PT.

I actually found Pain of Salvation at Tower Records that same visit, but it was neither of the CD's you had mentioned to me. I'll try to check them out, too. So wait, you recommended King's X to me, no?

Are you into drone/noise stuff like Sunn0))) and Oren Ambarchi? I almost went to see Sunn0))) earlier this year, I just couldn't find anyone to go with for whatever reason. And do you happen to like Isis? They're great, I'm just getting into them, and I might see them in March.

Very well done Pheezy.

Just checked out mimicry records page, can't wait for the new SC3 album... Book of Horizons was fucking incredible.

Seriously. They're amazing.

As Alex said, nothing else is quite like California. You should check out some of his tracks with lovage, specifically "pit stop (take me home)", "everyone has a summer", and "lifeboat". Good stuff.

Yay! I love Heartbreaker but my favorite of his is the double Cold Roses disc. Some of the best music I've ever heard. In my opinion of course. I also really like Gold and Rock N Roll. Rock N Roll is really different for him. Demolition is really good too. Love Is Hell is a bit of a downer but there are still some great tunes on there! Ok who am I kidding I love them all except for "29", that one is just a little too far out there.

If you have any Ryan questions just let me know. I am a tiny bit obsessed.

I've been listening to a lot of Ryan over the last few days. Heartbreaker was good, but everything else so far has blown it out of the water. So far I've finished listening to Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition, Rock 'N Roll and part of Love Is Hell.

I skipped the other half of Love Is Hell and 29 for now to check out Cold Roses, since you mentioned it...that's playing right now.

You usually can't get the feel for a live performance by watching it on a computer or television, however since Dishwalla is about done that they may be the best you get.

I don't know...they sound really good live, but they just stand there. At least they do in every video I've seen. It's pretty boring just seeing them all stand in one place. Their DVD is on my list of things I need to eventually buy, so I'll check that out at some point.

But yeah, their music is some of the best I've heard, in my opinion. I can't get enough of it. It's just that I've seen the Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket in concert and their shows were so much fun...I can't see a Dishwalla show topping either of theirs from what I've seen online. I hope the band does get back together before long, though...I'd still love to see them live, myself.
