Hi all,

I remember a similar thread a year back on the old board, and it was pretty cool to see all the concerts that people went to, so I thought it would be a nice idea to do it again. Only it is a different year (and mostly a better one at that for concerts). So, list the concerts you went to (or will go to) in 2006, with the date, band, and venue. Feel free to say at the bottom or whatever which ones you rank the highest.

It was a pretty slow year for me. I don't know the dates, I never keep track of such things but here is who I saw:

Collective Soul- 5 times
Shinedown- once I think, I lost track I've seen them so many times over the course of three years
Better Than Ezra- 2 times
Sister Hazel- 2 times
Tonic and Emerson Hart solo
Counting Crows and the Goo Goo Dolls ( I despise the Goo Goo Dolls)
Halestorm
Adam Kowalczyk- 3 or 4 times
Ryan Adams

My favorite show out of those would be Ryan Adams. It was a perfect rock show in a dark, hot, smokey club under an overpass in crappy Baltimore and it blew my mind. It was so great to see the man live whose music had made such a huge impact on me. A setlist totally different from the night before and everything that a good rock show should be.

Another show that stands out is the CS show that I saw at Kahunaville in DE. A monsoon came in the middle of the show and the band wouldn't stop playing and the crowd would not leave. There was lightening and wind and flooding and we all almost died. The band only stopped because the venue people finally pulled the plug and Ed's mic no longer worked! Certainly a show I will never forget!

And Tabucky, I did not know you liked Black Label Society. I love Zakk's playing style. Was that a good show?

Not a bad year for me...

May-
Alanis Morissette (Acoustic "Jagged Little Pill" Tour)
Sarah McLachlan
Depeche Mode
Live

June-
Counting Crows

July-
311
Dashboard Confessional
Yellowcard
30 Seconds to Mars (Worst concert ever...)
plus 10 others I can't remember (it was a big festival in KC; "Beach Ball 06")

August-
Live

My favorites are probably the acoustic Alanis concert, the Beach Ball festival (a twelve hour festival with 15 good bands!), and both Live concerts. I met Live after the shows at both concerts, but the second one was by far the best. I was with my boyfriend, mom and her best friend. We got backstage and ended up partying the whole night (til about 2 am) with Ed, Taylor and Gracey. Pat left early to go smoke pot and drive a golf cart around downtown St. Louis. It was interesting... But we all got t-shirts and set lists signed, and got to hang out and talk with the guys. It was amazing! kicking.gif

Sadly, I missed the Live gig I had a ticket for in Manchester as I had a stinker of a migraine. But this year I've seen:

AFI who were absolutely superb
InMe who are without a doubt the best band I've ever seen gig in my life.
Muse who are definitely overrated as a live act and I was really disappointed by

From what I remember:

Jeff Tweedy (Hollywood)
Coldplay + Fiona Apple (Los Angeles)
Live (Hollywood)
Fiona Apple + Damien Rice (Los Angeles)
Radiohead (San Diego)
Counting Crows / Goo Goo Dolls (Irvine -- didn't care to see the Goos though)
Nine Inch Nails (Irvine)
Pearl Jam + Sonic Youth (Los Angeles x2)
Pearl Jam + Sonic Youth (Santa Barbara)
Muse (San Francisco)
Red Hot Chili Peppers (Los Angeles)
Bridge School Benefit featuring Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Trent Reznor (with an orchestra), Neil Young, Death Cab for Cutie, Brian Wilson, and a few others

There may be a few other shows I can't remember at the moment.

Highlights of the year:

- All three Pearl Jam shows: the greatest live band I have ever seen, and I was lucky enough to see over 50 different songs performed in the three shows I went to

- Jeff Tweedy: I had seen Wilco live before, but as great as they were, Tweedy solo was even better; he's an absolutely brilliant musician

- Fiona Apple: she was good opening for Coldplay, but AMAZING headlining her own show; what an amazing voice she has! (oh, and she's a goddess too!)

- Nine Inch Nails: this was my first venture seeing Trent and his band live, and it blew me away!

- Bridge School: a great opportunity to see a handful of my favorite bands together in one day, in a unique acoustic setting; Foo Fighters were brilliant, Pearl Jam amazed as always, but Trent Reznor solo was the surprise of the day -- he had an orchestra behind him and re-interpreted some of his most brilliant songs to give them a totally different spin...I literally got chills!

Disappointments:
- Muse: I had heard that they were brilliant live, but I wasn't very impressed

- Radiohead: more due to the venue than the band; I had seen them live before and was always blown away, but this time the setting just wasn't right (the show was good, but not mind-blowing, as I had expected)
