In terms of current bands who I can see making the Hall of Fame in the future, I'd have to say Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M., U2, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Oasis. None of those are locks by any stretch, but they all have a decent shot, I would say.

Oasis??? You have to be kidding me. The were big for about two years and have completely disappeared. If that qualifies you than the Hall would be flooded.

Live needs to make some albums with commercial success. I won't give up on them yet. I hope they make it. Maybe if they keep producing albums they'll make it based on longevity. They have completely outlasted a ton of bands from their time.

Green Day will probably get in. They were big in the 90's and have been discovered by a completely new fanbase of middle school and high school kids.

I have mine regarding Pearl Jam and you have yours about Green Day

All I'm saying is don't write Live off yet! They have alot of years left in them and you have no idea what will happen in those years!

I'm not an incredibly hardcore Greenday fan -- just a casual fan who likes a lot of their music -- but I don't agree with you on this one. Although I wouldn't say they are a "lock" to get in, I do think they deserve consideration. Sure, their music is incredibly simple -- but some of the greatest bands of all time played very simple music (The Clash, The Ramones, even the Beatles, to name a few). It's not always about the complexity of the music; sometimes greatness has more to do with influence and sustained appeal than anything else. Like them or not, it's hard to argue with the fact that Greenday has had many followers who directly cite them as their influence for making music, from Blink 182 to Jimmy Eat World to a number of other punk/rock/emo bands. In addition, the music Greenday was making during their rise to popularity was unique -- much different than the grunge/alternative rock music that was being made by their peers -- yet somehow they managed to attract a large following and became commercially successful as well. Without that niche that they almost single-handedly created during the grunge era (can you name any similar bands that were played as much on the radio as Greenday was?), there are many bands today that probably would sound completely different, or not exist at all. That should be worth something, don't you think?

The Rock N Roll hall of fame seems very random. I mean - The Sex Pistols - what the fuck? They were basically a manufactured boy band and are getting accredited for a movement that far from pioneering, they just rode on the crest of before imploding. What's it going on, tabloid paper inches? The Clash I get - they deserve it based on quality, influence and longevity. Even U2 who I haven't been able to stand after the first 4 albums probably deserved their place last year. But never mind the Sex Pistols, they were bollocks. lol.gif

I can't see Live ever getting in.

Well they're still huge in England, but really, they're awful.

They won't get in.

I did

I do enjoy a few of Green Day songs, mostly early stuff, but they shouldn't get in because they created a new genre of music or influenced some other bands. Nirvana, for example. influenced many, many bands that have downright sucked. Nothing against Nirvana. I do think Nirvana should get inducted into the Hall of Fame, if they haven't already. Anyways, I don't really care if Green Day gets in. They do deserve some credit for becoming so successful and having a great comeback.

Are they? *looks round furtively* Nope, whoever told you Oasis were huge in England is a liar.

And yes, they are awful.

As for Nirvana getting in - we'll have to wait till 2012 or so to see - artists are only eligible 25 years after they first formed. I don't like Nirvana, but if the fucking Sex Pistols can get in, they stand a fighting chance.

I could go on for days about this, but in brief: their influence has been infinitely more powerful; the respect they have earned from artists (and others) in the industry is a thousand times stronger; the amount they have given back to their fans (they were the introducers of the "guaranteed best seats in the house for fan club members" innovation and the making every show available on an "official" bootleg idea -- both of which have been copied by a number of other artists in the past few years) and to charitable causes in general (they play a number of benefit shows every year, and donate part of EVERY ticket they sell to charity) absolutely dwarfs what Live has done; and, finally, their music is frankly just better, or at least it has been since Live decided to create (?) the album that we call V.

Get it?
