QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Nov 18 2006, 11:59 am) *

It was one of the best Live shows that I have ever seen. Ed's voice was the strongest I've seen it in a long time. They all have their all and it was just an awesome show. The only negatives for me were the asshole groups in the left balcony starting fights with each other. It was pretty intense and distracting during Mirror Song and Turn My Head, and a Live concert is no place for that crap.

Setlist was mixed up nicely and you couldn't pick what songs was coming next for the most part. I was a bit surprised that they didn't play the River, but they did play Mystery, Wings, Show, and Sofia from SFBM. They also played Pain Lies on The Riverside and Iris which were both nice surprises. I don't remember the setlist order, and I won't even try to write it out.

Ed said it was their final show of the year and that the next album they do will be angry, because he's pissed that whenever he turns on the radio everything f^&* sucks. So good news for those who like an angrier Live. After tonight's show, I don't think Live is done at all, and i'm relieved. They seem like they can do this for another ten years, no problem smile.gif

So this is the first time I've posted on here, so I don't want to piss anyone off in the beginning, but I do have a few of my own thoughts to add. The atlantic city show was my 19th live show. I was psyched to head down to atlantic city for what I expected to be a great show. I was let down for many many reasons. I actually came on here to see if anyone felt the same, and I'm quite surprised to see people claiming it was the best show ever. I disagree for many reasons. First, and this has nothing to do with the band, but is definately a reason that I didn't get the show I was used to: it took us 6 hours to get to AC from connecticut. It's normally a 3.5 hour drive. This didn't really piss me off until after all was said and done. I blame the drive for landing me square in the back center (I'm spoiled - I haven't been further back than the 3rd row in the last 10 shows) under the ceiling lights. I've seen LIVE at the HOB before and I remember disliking the venue then, but not nearly as much as I hated it this time. How can you enjoy a concert when there are many many ceiling lights right in your face the whole time??? I kept thinking they were going to go out but they never did. Also, the sound back there sucked too!!! After the third song, I found myself wanting to leave. I have NEVER ever had these thoughts at one of their shows before and I would have bet anyone lots of money that I'd never have them. I couldn't stand it.
What got me the most was the crowd, at least in the back. It consisted of a bunch of people standing around with their arms at their sides. Um, this is a CONCERT people - MOVE! How can you stand still when the best band ever is on stage? That's a downer right there. I got dirty looks when I tried to get into the music. I remember thinking to myself, "wow, it's a really good thing that they didn't tape tonight because this crowd SUCKS". I even felt that the band was getting this vibe too. At least thats what it seemed like from the back. Ed didn't seem as into it as I've seen him in the past. Maybe it's because it's the end of the tour, but because of that, I expected even more energy than normal.
Now, as frustrated as you all are at me right now, let me tell you my dedication to this band: I've driven from Connecticut to Illinois and from Connecticut to New Orleans JUST FOR ONE NIGHT AT A CONCERT. Those 16hr and 22hr drives I'd do all over again for the kind of show that I normally see. I'm still in shock over this past friday nights show. I must admit that I couldn't take it anymore and actually left after LC. I still can't believe that I did that and neither can anyone that knows me.
I love this band and I always will. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly happened the other night? My best friend and I couldn't put it together. We still cant. I expected to see more posts like this one, but I'm not. Maybe it was all because I was in the back. Is the concert really that much different back there???? Does anyone feel the same???
I'm ready for the onslaught of nasty replies - I hope I don't get them, but I know how I can be if anyone knocks the band. I'll leave it like this - one bad show out of nineteen isn't bad. I can't wait for the next tour to start. I'll be waiting for that front row smile.gif

Ive been to 25 shows and I thought it was great. Of course the crowd was lame. Its Live not some hot/popular/up and coming band. Alot of people were just there because it was a familiar name and they like going to Atlantic City. People who like to just stand there are going to be in the back. I just walked up to the front on the one side.

First of all, welcome! We always need new friends in here!

I think it comes down to placement. I haven't been in the back for a Live show since my first one in 92. Unless I'm restricted by FUCKING SEATS THAT MAKE ME WANT TO KILL PEOPLE, I will be found upfront. The music is too important to me to let bad timing get in my way.

I'm surprised that the sound is bad in the back. From up at the stage, it actually looks like the sound should travel well in there. But you're not the first to say that, and I've only been up close for the shows, so I really can't say for sure.

Next time, let us know & we'll get you down there with us!

I am so glad to hear you say this!!! I had the most horrible experience at this LIVE concert than any that I have ever been to. I was in the balcony closer to the front; there were 6 of us. We go to every live show that comes around and do the same traveling you do to see them sometimes. So anyway we were standing up, singing, and just rocking out.. I was not only told to sit down but screamed and cursed at to sit down; I was also told a live concert was not the place to stand. HELLO?!?!?! Last time I checked LIVE was a freakin ROCK BAND!!! If these people wanted to sit down with their hands at their sides or knitting damn sweaters they should have went to a Kenny G concert.. The security actually tried to ask us to sit down until I laughed in his face and told him that I paid good money for these 6 tickets and you really want to me sit down at a rock concert.. he was like no I just had to ask.. Complete morons, I was so disappointed with the fans that were at this show. I have never been to a Live show with this many dead beat losers!! To the fan that cursed me out to sit down; you need to get yourself a life; we were at a rock concert. You made more of an ass of yourself telling me to I quote "sit down you fat f***ing b**ch"; when you were 3 times the size of me!!
I had myself a good time singing and rocking along with them.. I am sure they appreciated the fans that did stand up and sing with them, heck it was a ROCK CONCERT!

We attempted the side stage, but couldn't get a view. I guess we should have stayed there and at least enjoyed the sound and lack of light shining in our eyes the whole time smile.gif

next time i'll make my way to the front and find the true fans - I just didn't want to be one of those many assholes that have cut in front of me after I had waited 4 hours for that spot!!

I love the true fans. Thanks for not running me out of town for saying the concert wasn't the best smile.gif

I think the problem with some of you who didn't enjoy the concert is that you focus on other people too much! I know the sitters at a rock concert are fucked but who cares!! Just turn around and laugh at them smile.gif

The concert I went to in Australia was the same but I just ignored them and rocked on! And danced and sung and screamed for Ed to take his shirt off tongue.gif

Just focus on Live and the Love that they are trying to share and the fun they are trying to have and most of all the awesome music that they are playing!! To be at a Live concert isn't something that you get to do everyday! Some people have never even been to one, so I am just ever so grateful to be there and just soak it all up and enjoy it as much as I can!

Not every concert you go to will be perfect and the best concert you've been to! They are after all only human...Just enjoy it as much as you can and hope that next time it might be better smile.gif

I can also attest to the shitty sound in back. During the opening band, I went to get a drink at the bar, and even there, the music sounded muffled and not very good. The bar was all the way on the side and in the middle, not even in the back. HOB is definitely not a great venue, but I do know that Ed and Live put on a great performance, so I guess it was just the people around you and the sound that fucked things up for you peeps.

I've been to many LIVE show's where the people just stand there as well, I just dont get it.
From what we were told -the show was almost sold out due to COMP's issued by the casino.
We were on the off to the side of the stage Chad's side ( going back about 7 people deep ) we could see everything, thought the sound was great from where I was.
I'm surprised I didnt see you Janice ( I usually bump into you at some point )...maybe next time.
They were so great that LIVE so ALIVE........Ed sounded like he did back in the day....He kept making those faces.......I loved every minute of that show.
I know they said they were taking a break.......what do you guys think the chances of them doing a few shows here and there are ??????

That was the most crowded HOB AC show I've been too, so there had to be a ton of ticket sold without comps as well. Hootie was half empty when I went and Better Than Ezra/Sister Hazel was at least 75 percent empty. I actually thought this Live show was just as crowded as their previous sell out in August 05.

That said, I've also heard that there be a spot show or two from Live early 2007. Just a rumor, but hopefully its true.

Colleen, I'm sorry you had such a crappy experience. It is VERY different from the back. At my first show I stood in the WAAAAAY back by the bar, where the lights were on (dimmed) and where people were more interested in making out or having other conversations or slamming shots than actually listening to the band. But because that was my first show, I had no clue how it could be any different at the front (dummy!). I assumed being near the barricade would mean leaving black and blue by the end of the show.

Since then I've been to a few shows standing at the rail and I've vowed I'll NEVER stand less than ten feet from the stage, if I can help it at all.
