What the fuck are you talking about? If he had said "I like live's newer work more than their older work", you'd have a fucking point.

His point was he personally thinks Live's newer work is good but that doesn't make it so, just like "because someone says something isn't good doesn't make it so". He, and presumably other people on this board including me, hates it when people who don't like the new music and think it sucks make it out like it's a fact that it sucks, like a blanket statement: "Live's new album is horrible".

What pisses me off is when people don't understand that such blanket statements are possible, and that sometimes, they are made for reasons other than one not liking a particular album.

*goes into his typical objectivity vs. subjectivity rant that no one ever seems to understand at all*

Some albums do in fact suck, and you need to understand this, and not dismiss all "this album sucks" comments as mere opinion-made-to-look-like-fact type statements.

well, first of all, let me clarify... when i say they're OLD... i'm talking more about a state of mind, or a behavioral pattern rather than a physical age. i say 'old' in the context of lesser energy... and i don't mean to say that the band has less engery ONLY because they don't rock as hard (or at all) anymore... but even a ballad like 'turn my head' seemed to have more vitality behind it.

it's my opinion, not necessarily fact, so what can i say.

in regard to Bob Dylan... i've never given him a good listen, so i couldn't speak intelligently on the matter (i know, i sound like jack nicholson from 'a few good men'... then again, it's my opinion that some people 'can't handle the truth, so i might as well lol.gif )

as for springsteen... i never much liked his stuff to begin with, so again, it would be unfair of me to comment.

seriously, though, back to Live being 'old'... don't you feel less 'energy' coming out of those speakers? i know i do.

I will like Live (or any other band, for that matter) if I want to like them regardless of what other people think and their commercial success (or lack thereof). Though you have all raised good points at one point or another about what good music is and what bad music is (yes, even mcpheezy), it really comes down to what you think. I know this is really a horrible cliché, but it's true. We are adults...there's no peer pressure involved in choosing music anymore.

that's a pretty solid point.

overall, there are a lot of people happy with live's current direction, and a lot of people not-so-happy.

some might be eager to call the not-so-happy people 'negative', but maybe they're just upset because they miss the way live used to be and want to vent about it. considering all the time, money, energy, and effort people have put into this band and their music, i'm inclined to say these peeved-off fans (and i guess i'm kinda one of them) have a right to bitch as long as they're not personally attacking anyone on the board.

dan, maybe an extra idea for the new design? ...
2 additional message board categories
"Bitch about Live" cry.gif
"Live can do no wrong" yahoo.gif

If everyone stays on their side of the fence, sure it'll be less interesting.... but there will also be less drama.

There's comments here that I agree with and things I disagree with. One thing though, that comment about Live being better musicians than people on the board is not necessarily true. They are good at what they do, but there's nothing complicated about any of Live's music. Technically its very simple music.

Negative. The quality of music is not determined by anyone's thoughts/feelings/opinions.

It's actually determined by a program on MrMcPheezy's computer. It's amazing. Pop in a CD, the program will "listen" to the album, and let you know if it's good or not. So there's no more need to waste hours upon hours actually listening to music trying to form your own opinions as to what's good and what's not. The computer does it all for you.

And silly me, for some reason I thought the quality of art was based on opinion...

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If somone likes a song, that person says that the quality of music is good and vice versa. There isn't an almighty power that determines whether or not a piece of music is good. Maybe I just don't understand what you meant.

What I mean is that whether or not you like a song is not a valid basis for commenting on its quality.

Ok. So what would be a valid basis?
