It's a decent album, but I think it was one of Live's worst efforts. It sounds to me like Live wanted desperately to not write Throwing Copper II, be mysterious and sound dark, and all of that comes off as very pretentious to me. It lacks the innate energy that all of their albums have, and feels the most awkward. That's one of the greatest assets SFBM has: it sounds like they really wanted to write those songs. SS sounds forced and lost.

They went to Jamaica or somewhere, got stoned and wrote it, how could it not sound totally different to the others?

BTW SS is one of my favourite albums ever.

they drank alot of Rum didn't they. Not get stoned

On the Awake DVD Ed says they went to Jamaica and "got friendly with the gardener".

This is why most the lyrics are so fucking pathetic.

drugs dont equal bad music or lyrics. maybe different but look at pink floyd. as much as i seem to hate tool more and more everyday i do need to quote this.

"If you dont think drugs have done anything good for us do me a favor. Go home tonight and take all your tapes, all your cd's, all your records and burn them. Cause do you know that all those musicians that have enhanced our lives over the years, Were really fucking high on drugs."

Hey man, I'm not saying that it's true of every musician. Hell, I'm a huge advocate of Trent Reznor getting back on drugs to improve him music. I just think that they were so fucking high that they wrote the stupidest shit and thought it was cool. Maybe it's just that...because ed already kinda sucks at writing lyrics, the drugs only made him worse. Others who come to the table with some natural skill find that their skill is enhanced by drug use.

*shrug*

I mostly just wanted to complain about how awful the lyrics from Secret Samadhi are.

Anyone who even mentions the abomination that is "V" in the same thread as "SS" should neck themselves.

"TC", "SS" & "TDTH" are streets ahead of all other albums - nothing else will ever have the staying power these three have.

"V" is fucking horrid. I sacrificially burnt my copy. uhoh.gif

I agree with you 100%, fellow Lithuanian!! ( I am, by marriage )

SecretSamadhi, to me, embodies everything that an album should be. It was a hugely anticipated release, after the success of TC. Except for Duran Duran back in the 90's, I had never been so excited for the release of an album, ever.

I listened to it constantly, and never got sick of it. I still don't. When I heard it, I was so happy with the direction they were headed.... but right about then they changed course eh.gif

I love the complexity of the album, it was about everything and nothing at all. You can go into a trance listening to it, or jump up and down.

It kicks ass thumbsup.gif
