Ok guys, to me a soldier is just a soldier. Please enlighten me. What's the diff between General Infantry ( thanks for that Rocknerd thumbsup.gif, I never knew what GI was an acronym for that ) & Marines?

U.S. Marines are a part of the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Marine Corp does not have nearly as many troops as the U.S. Army. They are generally inserted via sea and their job is to go in first and secure their objective until the Army takes over. In theory. Of course the Army is much larger and has the Rangers, who frequently go in first to secure an objective, espescially if the objective does not have as much naval significance. Infantry is your average foot soldier.

I have the utmost respect for all categories of these soldiers who voluntarily serve their country, whatever country that may be. Now politicians, that is a different story, but the soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen I refer to do not make the political decisions, they serve their country in defense of their fellow citizens.

As far as Australia, I personally love the country and find Aussies to be a strong-willed lot in general...that is a GOOD thing. I also recognize many Australians gave their lives in defense of the U.S. in WWII as well. And no, I do not think Australia owes the U.S. anything, so if that was inferred, I apologize. Truth be known, I like Canada, too (just don't tell LiveRoCks lol.gif )

see, you are getting political. my only point is that soldiers in free countries everywhere have given their lives to protect our way of life. believe what you will, but many U.S. Marines paid the ultimate sacrifice then and prevented an invasion of Australia by Japan. Perhaps you would have defeated their invasion, but you would have never stopped them from landing on your soil without U.S. Naval power.

But of course you are right, the U.S. had little or nothing to do with victory in WWII. the Allies certainly did not need our help lol.gif

In reply to that all i have to say is if we had listened to the Aboriginal people we wouldnt have needed anyones help. however as our racist governments at the time didnt believe what the aboriginals had to say so Darwin got bombed.
Also on that topic the Indiginous people of Australia were not recognised as people until 1976. they were counted under the fauna and flora act of the 1900's. Consiqyently many Indiginous comunities were wiped out By American and British Nuclear testing.

This is only imformation for people not a dig at anyone in particular. its always good to learn something new each and every day.

of course i knew, i made the comment because my comment about Jesus and GI's was becoming political which was not what i intended...it wasn't aimed at you. i think most average folks respect the average soldier, but we also have problems with almost all politicians to a degree. it is ashamed we can't just put the politicians in a ring and let them all fight it out. contrary to what some may think, i am not a warhawk; however, i am a realist and know a strong military is necessary.

I agree with that one!
I'm involved in local politics and it's a shame to see how some people just sit there for themselves instead of being there for the people.
In international politics it's even worse!
They say that they do it all for their people, but I don't believe that anymore.
If you really want to protect "your" people, then you don't send them to war about thousand miles away (don't know how far away).
(How symbolic, I have "Overcome" playing at the background).
I think, if you really want to solve the problems that cause the anger that causes the war, then you just need to get rid of your greed and a politician has to know that he our she is not the only important person in the world, and your country, city or village is not the only important place in the world.
All countries, all cities, all villages and all people are as important as everything and everyone else!
If you want the world to be a good place to be, then you need to work together to find real solutions everyone can live with!
Okay, you may find out that you don't get EVERYTHING you want, but if it is for peace, then it's no big deal to let some things go.
And rich countries have enough! They only should share things better with the civilians of their country who are poor and with the people in the poor countries.
With the money America and Europe spend for the war out there, they could let the army help a lot of homeless people of their country and refugees from other countries.
And about terrorists: I think the policepeople all over the world can go after them and maybe they can work together to arrest them.
Sometimes there are items in the news that the police had prevent a place (for example in Germany a couple of days ago) from an attack.
So it's possible!
That's my opinion.

GvB.

^ nod.gif agreed! But sadly I don't think we will ever be free of dishonest, money grubbing, corrupted politicians or fanactical terroists. Never! The world truly is in a fucked up state. I suspect it will all be over soon. The end is definately near. I just hope I get a heads up before I die sad.gif

In the meantime we live this lyric : " Politicians beat their drum, all the suits come running, Its all degeneration." ~ Life Marches On
