I like SFBM to an extent, but I agree that it's too simplistic and melodic. Hell, some of the tunes on this record are deserving of B-side status and don't belong on a Live album (e.g., Get Ready, All I Need, You're Not Alone). I could be wrong, but I doubt they collaborate enough when making a record anymore since they all have their own lives and are scattered all over the country. It seems like the band is content on letting Ed write all the material. I love Ed and respect where he's at in his life and the direction he's taken the band, but wish the other guys would get more involved in the writing process again.

I agree. I don't know for sure how they write music now, but I assume it's as you said (where Ed writes it and then they all record it). I know their lives are a lot different now than 10 years ago, but I would love for them to get together for a few weeks or months and write the next album together.

Hmm, maybe you're right.

SFBM is fucking formulaic and is god damn opposite of intense, so you shitlickers who think that SFBM is the "real" Live and that the other fuckin' four albums are just "fist-pumping" or "depressing" clearly don't understand how bands progress and what a great album is and you can fist-pump on my dick till I splooge on your ignorant face.
For those offended by the above paragraph, please refer to original post.

I like this guy smile.gif

SFBM is formulaic, and predictable. If you don't agree, you obviously don't know the first thing about music.

yes, SFBM is mostly based on standard:

verse1, loud chorus, verse 2, loud chorus, something different, loud chorus...

but, they sound good. and, listen to about 90% of what you hear by other bands and you'll hear the same thing. it all depends on what instrument you want to emphasize on.... SFBM is def. not a album focused on the guitar. listen to gracey's drums..... awesome. i guess that's why i like SFBM so much... i love to rock on the drums. now SS is def. a guitar rockin' album... i love it, also. but, i can't play the guitar.

just my $.02

Somehow, that doesn't make me feel better...

And I don't know if you have to "pick an instrument to emphasize," as you said; I think a lot of Live's stuff has very cohesive instrumentals, SFBM included. It's the lack of diversity and complexity in the instrumentals that I don't like.

For the people who like a dark and raw Ed better I say: have patience, in about 5 or 10 years he will get into his midlife-crisis! uhoh.gif
That will be good to make a darker and rawer album again (but I will feel sorry for him)!

THis thread is making a very good point at the moment!

When your life is going well its hard to write anything potent or dark, especially if you have already gotten alot of it off your chest at a younger age.

I also agree that the other members of LIVE need to have more influence in the band or some record company may decide that the band should be promoted as ED Kowalczyk and LIVE.

WHAT A SCARY THOUGHT.

I certainly agree. SFBM oozes happiness. But in a certain more exciting and revelatory way, so does TDTH. That album captured the experience of COMING to a place that is philosophically and spiritually calm. I guess so long as the journey's over, the excitement is too?

I agree with your comment on TDTH, which always reminds me of what ED said about the album: whilst everyone was at Woodstock 2 listening to TOOL and SLIPKNOT we were making this album, the new HIPPY album for todays generation.

I hadn't heard that before, I like that a lot.

I believe it was on the inlay from Awake. Ed put a hole bunch of quotes about all the live albums in there. check it out.

On the "Awake-dvd" there is a menu in which you can choose to watch an interview with Ed.
Check it out, there comes a point in which he makes that "Woodstock 2" quote.

By the way that midlife-crisis comment was just a joke!

GvB.
