Happy Ed > Angry Ed.

But that's just me. Leave the angst to the emo kids.

Don't say that too often here!
Most people here will feel like eating you for this!

Although I'm an emo too I fully agree with you and there are so much other emotions Ed shows too (love, sadness, hope).

It's great!

GvB.

Eh, I've said it often enough here that I really don't care anymore.

No-one is the same as they were 15 years ago. We all grow, we all mature and with all the changes happening, not only within ourselves, but all around us, we all have different priorites.
Bands also change, as you've all noticed.
Live were full of energy and aggression back then, as 18 year old boys are.

BUT....

You grow up, you settle down, and your thoughts are different.
Ed's lyrics, as well as the bands music, had to change.
You've all analyzed the different lyrics. The older lyrics were more aggresive and the style of music that they played back then, suited it.
Ed showed his spiritual side through the lyrics he wrote.
I remember one day listening to TDTH in my car and it slowly hit me. I'd had the CD about 6 months, and played it often, but hadn't really thought about the lyrics and what they meant. I'd been going through my own personal awakening at the time, and here was my favourite band singing about what I was going through. All of a sudden, I couldn't hear enough Live.

Even though I'd been a fan of Live since TC, it took TDTH for me to see that Live were not just another band that I liked, but they were a band that touched me like no other bands music ever had. Here was a band that wrote songs about things that not only meant something to them, but also things that meant something to me. They still do.

There is ony one band that has touched my heart and soul....

Live

The way I see it is its a wash. Back then they had the energy and angst, but they did not have musical skill that they have now. Sure, its great to see how they have evolved but I guess since I have grown with Live (saw them first in 92) I see it all as progress. If they were still like that, I'd get bored and stop going to shows.

It's got nothing to do with happy vs angry, it's to do with passion.
