Well, I think you provided some great food for thought - thanks for not being offended and answering my questions. Right now I'm reading Thomas Jeffersons Bible. Appearantly, he rejected what he was taught about Jesus and Christianity so he cut up his bible removing all references to miracles and divinity. It really emphasizes the wisdon in Jesus's teachings, which I like very much. I guess I get discouraged when I hear people like our president use God as a tool for a political agenda. Thats where the "tyrany" comes in. In Operation Spirit, I don't think Ed is slamming Christ, I think he's slamming people who use Christ as an excuse to not address relevant issues here today, in the 21st century.

well, that's where i differ.... i don't believe people should use Christ as a reason not to address the issues, but rather use Christ as an example on how to handle the issues.

that is a good question, and like a said... i'm no preacher, so i'm not gonna say yes or no on that matter, but i do remember reading something about that very thing in the bible.... i just can't quite remember. i will go and find that answer for you according to the bible. so, check back in a few days and hopefully i'll have a biblical answer for you.

i never said i didn't like ed. i don't even know him. i don't agree w/ a lot of what he sings about, but that doesn't translate into me not liking him as a person. i'm sure he's a very nice person. to me, ed is just the lead singer of my favorite band. and, that's it.

as far as me not having respect for someone that uses the Lords name in vain... i'll retract that statement. i know a lot of people say it w/o actually meaning any real harm, and i like them, but i still don't like it when they dissrespect God like that.

and still looking for the answer to: by the way... how do you pronounce "kowalczyk"?

I agree on the overanalyzing...

"as far as me not having respect for someone that uses the Lords name in vain"

I don't think bad words are using the lords name in vain. I think when you say "I swair to God I'll donate money", and then you don't donate any money - then you are using the Lords name in vain. (I'm an over-analyzer too)...

If you look at the major religions in this world, they have more in common then that they are different. Personaly i dont wish to believe in a god that would send me to hell or to heaven depending on whether i prayed hail marys or bowed to mekka 5 times a days. I cannot believe he would care about what seems to me, trivials things like that. It should not be about form, it should be about content. Religions differ like you differ from your next door neighbour. And as long as your content is love and not hate... i dont think he cares too much about form. And there is one thing i think everyone can agree on, ed writes about love a lot. I remember Ed saying sometime in the tdth here era, that he uses christian methaphors cus that is what people know and understand, so he uses those to get his point across. My opinion on the lyrics on sfbm: lyrics about love, though commendable, just arent as interesting as lyrics about inner or outer conflict, as trying to figure out where you are in the world. I mean its good for Ed, that he seems to have made it there, but lyrically its just not that interesting. But i really do like the album.
just my 2 cents
Lis

QUOTE(gotigrz @ Jul 21 2006, 7:51 am) *

well, thanks for your replies, and i'll always be a fan of LIVE's music, but i'm no longer a fan of ed kowalczyk....... just his music. i had a pretty good idea that he wasn't singing about anything that i believe in, or at least not in the same way that i do.

oh well, i'll continue to listen and sing to his songs, but when i sing them i think about Jesus and God as one. i guess that's why i usually either skip or turn down certain parts of Love Shines and Operation Spirit.

honestly, i believe when he sings about God (when does he not), that he's singing about the same God that i believe in... because there is only one God. i guess i look at him (ed) as i look at Jew's. i know they believe in the same God as i do, but they dont' proclaim Jesus Christ as the Son of God, which i know he is. but, i don't hate jews.

besides, i'm not gonna sit back and believe that someone that proclaims that Jesus is equal to budha and visa versa when he (ed) uses the Lords name in vein (everytime i see your face). i don't have much respect for someone that does that.

my opinion of LIVE.... ROCK ON!!!!! my opinion of ed..... whatever.

in that first paragraph thing u said that ur not a fan of him....and in the last line u dont seem to fond of him either

i personally could care less about ed's lyrics and really think he is messed up mentally. i really feel bad for anyone who's personal beliefs are influenced by his writing. when i met ed on the V tour, he certainly did not act as he portrays himself in interviews. whatever, i like his voice and live's music and continue to be a huge fan. ed does not seem like the type of person i would hang out with (like he'd hang out with me lol.gif ); however, chad g seems very down to earth and i enjoyed meeting him very much. as i have said in the past, vocals to me are another instrument. i agree his lyrics are becoming redundant, but i don't care as long as he sings them well.
