I changed the name of this topic since it kinda went more towards just political post than anything related to the Dixie Chicks.

Seems like a politics thread could have some legs. Seems its been a hot topic on the board recently.

QUOTE(WaiterAtCliftons @ Jun 22 2006, 4:38 pm) *

The Katrina thing was horrible. We really need to learn from that mistake. The thing is though most of that isn't Bush's fault. Local and State government are supposed to be the first responders. Not the government (FEMA).

That dipshit Nagin and whatever the dumbfuck Governors name is couldn't put their partisan differences aside and work together to save more people than they did. Empty buses sat in parking lots because Nagin didn't put them in use to get the people who couldn't for some reason find a way out, out of the city.

There was so much politcal red tape getting in the way of Katrina from the Local side of things it made it difficult for anyone to get organized to do anything.

I highly doubt you will see anything like that in the future. Thats one great thing this country does and that is learn from our mistakes.

you are 100% correct on Katrina; i usually refuse to even discuss it because most people want to blame the federal government when it was the dumbass state and local government that really screwed it up. all they had to do was REQUEST aid as they were advised to do. the feds cannot arbitrarily come in under our government and force evacuations. it HAS to be requested, and in this case it SHOULD have been beforehand, not after the fact.

having said that, i totally agree the response after the request was extremely poor, even if the feds were seriously handicapped from the extremely late request. i am all too familiar with FEMA, and i will be the first to say it should be completely scrapped and replaced with a better system. there are many good ideas in FEMA, but the way its guidelines/rules are written is utter bureaucratic BS. contrary to popular belief on this board, i am not a Bush worshiper and think the administration needs to revisit many of its policies, especially this one. i do support our president in general and still believe he was the right man on 9/11.

FFS, i am starting to get tired of discussing politics. i guess its "like a junkie needs a vein" lol.gif FFS

you people are all so fucking stupid im really starting to hate this board. Saddam as bad as hitler???? wtf?

Ever heard of Pol Pot? Khmer Rouge of Cambodia. Killed MILLIONS of people. Did the US stop him? No. Why did he come to power? Because of the Vietnam war...They fucked up the entire region.

1980's Chile. The US and CIA has DEMOCRATICALLY ELLECTED leader Salvador Allende assasinated because he carried Marxist views. DERMOCRATICALLY ELLECTED. They install the worst leader the country ever had. Augusto Pinochet. Killed thousands.

Saddam pales in comparrison to many leaders in Africa so why dont they take them out Sandkind? Why? The populations of these countries are being slaughtered by rebel groups, the leaders reaping the wealth off their misery.

Saddam worse than hitler? Why was Saddam an ally when they were fighting Iran? The US DID NOT go into iraq for humanitarian reasons that is an undeniable certainty. The reasons were pollitical/economic this doesnt make the US evil because there's no such thing, it just means they are not 'the guiding light to the rest of the world' or what ever the fuck you said. They are doing what suits them, that is respectable in its own right but dont be surprised that it draws negativity.

im tired of being political it makes me angry. Happy thoughts

And what were the political and economic reasons for why we went into Iraq?

Don't even say Oil. I'm so sick of fuckin' hearing that.

Amen, sister! This is one thing I can truly say I feel your pain without being a right-on politically correct berk or making some stupid assumption (unless you've got a metabolic disorder and don't just have eyes bigger than your stomach like I do). thumbsup.gif I'm a fat white woman and dieting makes me really bad tempered. I worked out the other day I'd probably lost my enitre body weight twice over and put it back on again over the last 20 years.

Try a sprinkling of fresh ground black pepper on your strawberry.gif You would think it would be disgusting on strawberries, but it's much nicer than sugar and really brings the flavour and sweetness out.

Make food not war. victory.gif We produce more than enough food to feed the entire planet, yet end up stockpiling or burning perfectly good food due to stupid quotas and subsidies. But that's a whole other political can of worms right there.

Well, what was the reason for going in there period? WMD'S? That's already been found to have been a crock of shit right from the start.

Funny nobody answers Wambalang or whatever his name is. There are leaders all over the place who are slaughtering their own people and who are a danger to neighboring countries. But Bush decides on Iraq? Damn fucking right he decide on Iraq and for a good reason. Oil and money. Handing out contracts to his buddies left right and center. Pipelind contracts in Afghanistan to american companies. Money money money money money money.

Guy is a greedy, rat faced sack of shit.

Thou Mother with Thy Equal Brood

...Sail, sail thy best, ship of Democracy,
Of value is thy freight, 'tis not the Present only,
The Past is also stored in thee,
Thou holdest not the venture of thyself alone, not of the Western continent alone,
Earth's resumé entire floats on thy keel O ship, is steadied by thy spars,
With thee Time voyages in trust, the antecedent nations sink or swim with thee,
With all their ancient struggles, martyrs, heroes, epics, wars, thou bear'st the other
continents,
Theirs, theirs as much as thine, the destination-port triumphant;
Steer then with good strong hand and wary eye O helmsman, thou carriest great companions,
Venerable priestly Asia sails this day with thee,
And royal feudal Europe sails with thee...

Walt Whitman, 1872
