mattdm11 recently purchased an original tape of Public Affection's 'The Death of a Dictionary' and has generously provided a fresh transfer in lossless FLAC audio. This is a noticeable improvement from the bootleg versions that had been pressed onto CD. After hearing this version you will notice that the existing versions had been sped up. In this version Ed's voice sounds less like a chipmunk - it sounds much better.

This is much better than the original DOAD we had in the "big" pile of live extras on this site. The version there has a hiss in the background. I had one other copy of DOAD I got from here labeled "clean" and this version in this thread is marginally better to my poorly trained ears.

Gotta say how much I appreciate Mattdm11 for sharing this!!

The .zip file has been downloaded 35 times and the individual tracks have been downloaded between 30 and 50 times each. There are no viruses in the files. I assume your scanner doesn't like the Mediafire hosting site. Does it flag any of my other Mediafire uploads?

Huge thanks to Matt for providing the Live community with the cleanest rip yet! bowdown.gif

I shared this with an audio engineer friend of mine who wanted to have a go at remastering it to bring out the full potential of the recording, and make it sound as close as possible to a CD master rather than a cassette rip.

The results are pretty amazing - it sounds really 'full' with more balanced EQ and levels music.gif

I'd be happy to share the remaster here with Dan and/or Matt's permission if that's okay?

Ok then, here it is!

My mate who goes by the name Johnny remastered the cassette rip kindly shared by mattdm11 to make it sound as close to the original master as possible. For those who know a bit about audio, this involved tweaking the EQ, fixing clipping, alignment and DC bias, and filling in some single channel dropouts that occassionally peppered the cassette. It now sounds even more dynamic and clear - as good as we are going to get without an original master > CD/digital. I've also updated the artwork for this version.

I think it does sound better, but what's with the artwork? While I like the bigger image of the band, the jpg is riddled with artifacts, pixilations (or however you spell it), etc. Is there a way to put the larger image of the band on my nice clean image?

Hey Matt!

Glad you like how it sounds.

The artifacts on the new artwork are an unfortunate side-effect of upscaling and colour-correcting the image from your clean original. If you have a larger raw version from your original scan and want to send it through I'd be happy to have another go to produce an artifact free version thumbsup.gif
